WAREHOUSE / LOGISTICS MANAGER -EAST RAND

SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for an experienced person to fulfill the role of a Warehouse / Distribution / Logistics Manager, the ideal candidate must come from a steel trading background and have experience overseeing the distribution of steel and related products throughout South Africa.

POSITION INFO:

Qualifications:

• Matric / equivalent
• Degree or diploma in Tranport / Logistics or related

 Experience and requirements:

• 10 or more years’ experience in a senior role within a large organisation and a large branch network throughout South Africa
• Recent working experience in the steel industry, knowledge of mild steel and allied products
• Advanced computer skills: MS office Suite and Syspro will be an added advantage
• Of sober habits
• Have a stable work record and contactable references
• Strong management and supervisory skills
• Reside close to Germiston
• Have reliable transport and a valid driver’s licence
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Duties and responsibilities:

• General supervision of staff in the warehouse
• Ensure that incoming materials from suppliers are in good order and safely stored, and that outgoing materials are correct and ready to be transported
• Negotiate with transportation companies over rates or service levels; prepare documents; or review invoices and customs documents. 
• Look into and resolve issues with suppliers, customers, transportation companies or employees. 
• Review distribution center workloads with other departments, coordinating with the schedulers and planners.
  • Transport – vehicle selection, mix and controlling of maintenance (Delivery vehicles and reps company vehicles)
  • Ensure that distribution of orders is despatched on time
  • Stock control – Daily stock counts and quarterly stock takes
  • Implementation, maintaining and staff training on all Health and Safety and job related issues.
  • Load planning – vehicle utilization
  • Liaison with shop stewards
  • Identify training needs and provide training
  • Identify staffing needs and motivate, measured against business needs
  • Plan preventative maintenance of all equipment
  • Daily meetings with warehouse and admin staff
  • Chair disciplinaries
  • Report to management daily
  • Prepare and submit monthly operational reports
  • Security of site – Personal and company assets
  • Warehouse planning
