Job summary

Responsible for management of the whole treasury function within the company. Ensuring that duties in relation to treasury are carried out in a timeous and accurate manner. Upholding the required standards to achieve the company’s financial and business objectives.

Key performance areas

Customer Service

  • Liaison with internal and external customers in a professional manner
  • Engage with customers and staff in stores in a professional manner
  • Follow up on all Treasury enquiries received

Administration

Responsible for the following:

  • Implement and maintain treasury policies and procedures for the cash up and cash handling at a store level
  • Constantly improve the cash ups process in response to changes in the business environment
  • Oversee the checking of the cash ups at a head office level
  • Ensure that all tender type sales are timeously banked
  • Report and follow up on variances noted, i.e., Cashier shortages, voids, etc, take corrective measures where necessary (example, AOD’s)
  • Export and send out Daily Receipts files
  • Daily sales reports to be accurate and complete
  • Treasury reconciliations to be accurate and complete
  • All Operational reports to be accurate and complete
  • Liaise with banks regarding queries
  • Liaise with Area Managers regarding treasury queries
  • Check all payment details loaded on bank and do first authorizations
  • Arrange that all suppliers are loaded on bank as beneficiaries
  • Weekly change orders from stores and do first authorizations
  • Monthly petty cash orders from stores and do first authorizations
  • Monthly Operational Summary report of re-occurring problems
  • Monthly debit order lists to compile and send out
  • Month-end outstanding balances for each tender type to determine and give to accountants to reconcile to the Accounting Package
  • Treasury filing to be kept updated
  • Credit card and petrol slip reconciliations
  • Customer overcharges refunds
  • Food vouchers get checked, invoiced, and recovered from customers
  • Implementation of new stores in all the treasury reports
  • Ad hoc duties

Personnel Management

  • Application and utilization of personnel
    • Ensure that personnel are judiciously applied inappropriate posts and that the workload is cleared with the minimum mistakes and overtime
    • A proactive approach to recruitment and maintaining a good treasury environment
    • Manage treasury clerks daily and review all their work
    • Perform interviews in the hiring process of new clerks
    • Approval of timesheets of contract staff

  • Personnel Training, Development and Facilitation
    • Ensure that on-the-job training is effectively planned and conducted to ensure that sufficient expertise is available to deal with the work
    • Cross-training of clerks so they can be a back-up for each other
    • Ensure that the mentorship in the department is effective to enable all personnel to develop to their full potential

  • Evaluation of Personnel
    • Ensure that you have sufficient knowledge of personnel and their duties to do effective evaluation and ensure that ongoing discussions take place
    • Ensure that evaluations are done on a regular basis according to the guidelines of the system
    • Ensure that steps are taken to develop employees for performance improvement

Experience/knowledge & skills

  • Working experience in a treasury area
  • Experience in supervising a team (non-negotiable)
  • People management skills
  • Strong understanding of the treasury function
  • Excellent reconciliation skills and financial applicable technical knowledge (non-negotiable)
  • High computer literacy (MS Outlook, MS Office) – Need Advanced Excel skills (non-negotiable)
  • Completely proficient in English
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Structured and organised approach
  • Self-starter, flexible, energetic, confident
  • Strong resistance to pressure and experience of a high-volume environment

Qualification/s

  • Grade 12
  • A bookkeeping/accounting qualification would be an advantage
