SUMMARY:
Client in the Transport, Automotive and Passenger Services Industry requires the services of a Transport and Operations Manager in Gauteng (Tshwane) as soon as possible

POSITION INFO:

Job Summary:


The Operations Manager is directly responsible to the Director for short-and-medium term activities related to Operations in order to achieve optimal productivity as well as profitability within the Operations department.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


1. People management and Employment relations


• Coordinate and manage subordinates, facilitate interdepartmental communication, allocate tasks and resources as needed.
• Ensure compliance to and implementation of company procedures and policies as well as legislative requirements pertaining to employees in the department.
• Manage the process of keeping attendance records of all operations employees, including drivers and ensure that reports are submitted timeously to the financial manager.
• Communicate with operations staff on a regular basis with regards to requirements and the actual operations of the business / department.
• Coordinate and apply discipline in the department where needed, in liaison with other senior management.
• Prepare and partake in disciplinary procedures in whatever capacity is required for the specific situation.
• Liaise with all employees on a regular basis to assist in favorable employment relations.
• Represent the company where needed at relevant Bodies during conciliations and arbitrations.


2. Performance Management and Personal Development


• Manage the process of analysing driver information and preparation of provision reports.
• Prepare for and conduct bi-annual personal development reviews with sub-ordinates in a fair, positive, and uplifting manner.
• Identify training and development needs of individuals in the department and suggest positive solutions in liaison with the HR department.


3. Administration and Control


• Manage day to day operations of shipments.
Manage shipments on SAP
• Manage and control shipments.
• Manage cell phone contracts in the company; order airtime, sim swaps, and upgrades.
Prepare quotes for customers where needed.
Control operations using applicable software.
• Prepare and order foreign currency for cross-border operations.
Manage queries with Suppliers.
• Manage insurance matters.
Manage vehicle and driver licenses.
• Prepare costings on imports.
• Manage roadworthy processes for trucks.
• Prepare preliminary and final invoices for Suppliers.
• Manage diesel processes.
• Follow up and finalise outstanding queries with the Operations Coordinator.

4. Cost control and strategic management


• Conduct continual analysis and evaluation of strategic information (revenues, freight costs, vehicle costs etc.)
• Provide meaningful reporting to senior management in a timely and effective manner.
• Organise, analyse, interpret and evaluate results and provide practical, cost effective solutions.
Source new business.


5. Client relations


• Communicate with the public in a friendly and efficient manner regarding enquiries pertaining to loads.
• Follow up enquiries.
• Prepare quotations.


6. Health and Safety


• Ensure implementation and compliance to Health and Safety Programmes and Processes in your department.

JOB SPECIFICATION


Academic qualifications
Postgraduate Degree in Logistics Management or related management field.
Work experience:
8-10 years in the logistics field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Computer skills – SAP, Microsoft Office
Communicate effectively – personnel as well as the public.
Manage information well.
Problem-solving and Logical and Strategic thinker.
Management skills.
