SUMMARY:

POSITION INFO:

Main purpose of the job:

• Day to day transcription/translation of qualitative audio as well as other study-related documentation, along with research-related activities including but not limited to administration and quality control

Location:

• Wits RHI – 7 Esselen Street, Research Centre, Hillbrow, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Transcribe audio files of focus group discussion and in-depth interviews in accordance with study-specific templates
• Translate local language audio into English using a one-step method
• Review/quality control completed transcripts as and when required
• Ensure compliance with transcript naming conventions
• Translate and back translate study-related documents (i.e., English to Zulu, Zulu back to English)
• Review/Quality control translations
• Attend relevant external and internal meetings
• Complete relevant project administration as and when required
• Document team meetings as and when required
• Compile weekly reports on activities, progress, etc.
• Conduct duties assigned per Delegation of authorities log
• Assist other cadres of staff when required and feasible
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
• Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
• Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
• Stay abreast with developments in research
• Take ownership for driving own career development in attending training and development sessions and relevant meetings
• Comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Protocol requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Verify the accuracy of data in source documentation and accuracy of transcription/translation from source data
• Support the timely data entry/transmission/data faxing/uploading of relevant Case Report Forms following QC/QA activity (as needed)
• Ensure timeous and accurate completion of corrective action of internal and external QC reports and monitoring reviews

Required minimum education and training:

• A Tertiary Degree would be advantageous
• Fluent in English and Zulu
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum 1-year working experience in a research (qualitative and quantitative) environment, with practical experience in transcription and translation

• Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Be tactful and respectful
• Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
• Empathetic with good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good administrative skills
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
