POSITION INFO:

 

Our Client, a well-established and highly prestigious South African Manufacturer in the technical textiles industry is seeking to URGENTLY appoint a dynamic Mechanical Fitter to be based in their Pinetown, Durban Engineering Workshop Operations.

MAIN PURPOSE FOR THE ROLE:

• Report directly into an Engineering Workshop Charge Hand
• To increase machine availability for production by maintaining, repairing, and improving machinery and installations in the factories
• To fabricate parts required, on lathe and milling machine.
• Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes.

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Min N6 qualification ESSENTIAL
• Successful completion of a Mechanical Fitting trade test ESSENTIAL.
• This qualification could have been obtained through either a formal apprenticeship or Section 28 of the Manpower Training Act.
• Must have completed min of 4 years as a trade tested Mechanical Fitter ESSENTIAL.
• Position subject to a 3-month probation period.
• Strong pneumatic and hydraulic problem-solving skills are preferential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide efficient Fitting support service
• Assemble, install, test, and maintain any mechanical equipment, apparatus or fixture, using hand tools and power tools.
• Plan layout and installation of mechanical equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
• Fabricate parts required on a lathe and milling machine.
• Inspect mechanical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair.
• Ensure compliance with codes, OHSACT and All relevant local and international codes and best practices.
• Direct and train workers to install, maintain or repair equipment and fixtures.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Willing to work overtime when necessary and standby rota system.
• Be able to fault find, tune and repair industrial sewing machines.
• Be familiar with injection moulding techniques.
• Must have own transport ESSENTIAL.
