Formal training required: 

Trade tested Tool Maker. 

8 – 10 years relevant experience. 

An Engineering Qualification would be preferred.


Formal Training, Experience Required and Key Qualities

The knowledge and skills the applicant should have:

 Manage artisans in a Tool Room Environment.

Tool Making (Press and Plastic), General Machining, CNC Machines programming in master CAM (Hand Programming) and Solid Works.  Specific knowledge of Tool Steel.  Must have good Technical skills and knowledge in Tool Design and carry out design work. Must have knowledge of OHSAS, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Must be able to work with little or no supervision.


Responsibilities of the Job:

Responsible for improving and optimizing the Production Tooling, using modern Design and reEngineering techniques. Tooling improvements and optimization must lead to improved productivity and Plant recoveries. Resources and equipment at the incumbent’s disposal must be utilized effectively and efficiently.

Some of the responsibilities include

Manages Tool Room operation and Tool Room employees. - Will be using SAGE to fill out all Requisitions on Tool Room purchases and supply procurement with all the necessary quotes for pre-approval. - Responsible for all Production tooling design, re-engineering, and maintenance. - Ensures all Production tools, jigs and equipment are in good working order for the use in production. - Ensures that all repairs and maintenance done on production tools are of a high standard and the Products meet the required Specifications. - Supervises all tool maintenance work in Tool Room. - Purchasing of all equipment, materials and consumables required for the Tool Room. - Monitors and records all tool performance and efficiencies, identify ways to increase tool life and reduce repairs and maintenance costs. - Documentation for tool setting instructions must be drawn up and distributed to the relevant persons. - Ensures continuous training of Tool Setters in the correct setting of Tools and Presses. - Assists the Production Department in the commissioning of new Tools.
