JOB PURPOSE

  • The Technology Portfolio Manager will oversee various technical projects through the project life cycle aligned to the standards of the Technology Portfolio
  • Management function to ensure fulfillment of contract requirements and program
  • objectives for specific assigned portfolios.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES Portfolio Project Planning

  • Plan and organize the management of various programmes, interdependent projects, tasks, a series of smaller projects or a definable piece of a larger program to ensure a successful completion to time, cost and scope.
  • Define project scope and schedule while focusing on regular and timely delivery of value.
  • Develop or update project plans for information technology projects including information such as project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, schedules, funding, and staffing.
  • Design and construct Work Breakdown Schedules (WBS), capacity plans and cost estimates for the specific portfolio of projects.
  • Identify, review, or select vendors or consultants to meet project needs.
  • Work with shared cost administrator and project administrator to ensure consolidated portfolio management to the standards of the GM: IT PPM

Portfolio Management

  • Manage project execution of all technical projects to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope.
  • Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables.
  • Transition between portfolios where necessary in order to provide the capacity
  • required by the GM.
  • Oversee and monitor project financial status and performance to maintain
  • contract budget guidelines and schedules.
  • Submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
  • information and trends.
  • Establish and execute a project communication plan.
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and spans of authority to project team.
  • Initiate, review, or approve modifications to project plans.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings related to information technology projects.
  • Negotiate with project stakeholders or suppliers to obtain resources or materials.
  • Identify need for initial or supplemental project resources.

Portfolio Governance

  • Mitigate the risk “blockers” related to product deliveries
  • Ensure project governance processes and decisions are applied consistently
  • Provide input to budgeting process per project portfolio
  • Work closely with PPM Team, Business Units and other stakeholders to facilitate

delivery and remove impediments.

  • Drive high quality of all deliverables across complete life cycle.
  • Coordinate and facilitate project audits as needed.
  • Managing customer expectations for project deliverables.
  • Perform risk assessments to develop and measure response strategies,
  • reporting, cost time quality delivery, and adherence to standards.
  • Monitor the performance of project team members, providing and documenting performance feedback.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Coordinate activities between subsidiaries, technology teams, data providers and suppliers.
  • Act as primary contact for technical project matters between customers/clients and company leadership, provide briefings on project status, successes, and issues.
  • Conduct regular meetings with customers/clients to ensure all requirements in the Statement of Work are met, changes in scope or workload are discussed and contractually documented, impacts are identified, and issues get resolved.
  • Report to the PPM General Manager and provide regular updates to the Chief Information Officer and other executives on ad-hoc basis and via Steercos and other management meetings.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years’ experience in base project management or similar in scope and breadth.
  • Previously managed technology projects/portfolios in a financial services, retail or telco environment.
  • Designed and implemented technology projects with budgets between R250K and R10M or above.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Knowledge of program management operations, telecommunication systems consumer engagement processes and technology operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (ex. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Aha and MS Project.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, verbal/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
