Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
Main purpose of the job
- To coordinate and provide technical support to relevant stakeholders within the HIV VL testing value chain
- Responsible for coordinating activities that result in strengthening of the clinic-laboratory interface
- To provide viral load support for VL testing laboratories while fostering good stakeholder relations

Key performance areas
- Manage and coordinate HIV VL scale-up activities
- Assist with validations/verifications of all HIV VL procedures
- Support EQA and audit processes in a molecular laboratory
- Project plan development for designated supported districts
- Risk management for planned and assigned tasks
- Project review and provide input in development of overall M & E plans
- Development of continuous quality improvement plans and following the through
- Strategic implementation of continuous quality improvement plans
- Day to day monitoring of system performance
- Conduct site visits as triggered by deviation from ideal M& E targets
- Follow-up visits to relevant designated health care facilities and laboratories
- Train, mentor and coach staff in relevant healthcare facilities and laboratories
- Preparation of presentations
- Ensure that continuous training and change management is done to ensure that the clinic-laboratory interface is strengthened
- Provide guidance to relevant stakeholders
Required minimum education and training
- Biomedical Technologist – National Diploma/BTech
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities
- Must have understanding of national HIV VL program
- Extensive molecular laboratory experience
- Specialization in virology desirable
- Knowledge and experience with viral load technology essential
- Exposure to validation, EQA and audit processes in a molecular laboratory
- Provide support to VL laboratories nationally
- Undertake implementation and support of project in laboratories and health care facilities
- Experience with implementation and support of IT application systems will be an added advantage
- Teaching and training ability essential
