SUMMARY:
Technical Assistant

POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities:

(i) Protect the company by not placing it at technical, quality or commercial risk by careful consideration of the customers technical, quality and delivery requirements.
(ii) Ensure that the Group vision of becoming “The Preferred Supplier in our Chosen Niche Markets” is achieved by working to continually upgrade the value and quality of company products.
(iii) Show open minded team spirited co-operation with the Management Team.
(iv) Keep the customer satisfied.
(v) Operate in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 9001/2015 Quality Management System.
(vi) Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
(vii) Protect all the Company assets (Land/Building, Plant, Equipment and Tools, Vehicles, Stock and WIP)
(viii) Enforce the Covid 19 relevant protocol to both employer and employee


Duties: The duties include but are not limited to the following:


ESTIMATING AND PLANNING
1. Understanding customer requirements of drawings, specifications, quality and delivery.
2. Ensuring that the company’s exposure is clearly defined by specifically including/excluding items on the scope of work.
3. Undertaking site and equipment measurements and converting them to working sketches and drawings
4. Compiling detailed Bills of Materials, item take-offs from drawings, sketches and data sheets and arranging material optimization (nesting both manually and using relevant software i.e Sigmanest, trutops and promotion)
5. Interpreting data sheets and specifications into sketches that can be estimated from.
6. Obtaining accurate competitive costs of materials from suppliers and stock and liaising with subcontractors and works to estimate realistic manpower inputs and delivery times.
7. Understanding and applying relevant design and manufacturing codes of practice and standards so that accurate cost estimates and drawings can be undertaken
8. Preparing and presenting detailed and accurate quotations, proposals and contracts.
9. Collecting relevant technical books and brochures to build up a technical data base.
10. Being fully computer literate and competent on the relevant computer packages.
11. Liaising with and providing service to the other departments in ensuring the jobs are processed expediently into the works and that specification, quality and delivery are compiled with.
12. Filing estimates, quotations and drawings in a neat, orderly and retrievable manner
13. Compare estimates with actual to modify estimating methodology.


SUPERVISING
1. Understanding the technical, quality and delivery requirements of the jobs to ensure customer expectations are met.
2. Liasing with customers and inspectors in order to satisfy their shop floor requirements.
3. Supervising of the workshop using the proven techniques of planning, organizing, leading and control of outputs, quality and costs.
4. Optimise and control man hours to agreed pre-set levels.
5. Provide inspiration, motivation and disciplinary leadership.
6. Liason and co-operation with the marketing, estimating, quality, purchasing and stores functions to ensure optimum completion of the jobs.
7. Ensuring that man hours, materials, consumables and maintenance costs are correctly allocated to the respective jobs, contracts and accountings codes. Being proactive to correct any negative variances that may be occurring on the job.
8. Be proactive and flexible to changes in the workload so that adjustments can be made to optimise outputs and minimise costs.
9. Ensuring that workshop, equipment, machines and tools are maintained cost effectively.
10. Ensure that housekeeping is to high standard of lay-out, storage, neatness and cleanliness, ie: A place for everything and everything in its place.
11. Ensure that the safety, health and first aid are in accordance with the applicable Statutory Instruments and the Occupational Health and Safety Act in line with 16.2 workshop
12. Be responsible for training and shop floor industrial relations


Relationships
(I) Have an open and honest relationship with management and peers
(II) Assist with any other duties as defined by Management
(III) Be willing to work from any of the company premises


CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
1. Reaching pre-agreed budgets, sales gross margin, gross profit and manpower ratios for the division.
2. Ensuring that the division can grow at budgeted levels.
3. Having zero jobs rejected by customers (Uncompromising Quality).
4. Keeping scrap and rework below 3%.
5. Have no accidents or lost time incidents.


LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY
You will be responsible to the Directors for the satisfactory execution of your duties.
Job Requirements: The candidates must have the following
1. A strong technical basics with either a trade, technicians or drafting qualification.
2. Have worked in an engineering environment with fabrication and fitting experience preferably in stainless steel.
3. Be computer literate with good working knowledge of the Microsoft Professional suite of software including Microsoft projects.
4. Good interpersonal skills with a firm disposition.
5. Self- motivated and independent yet good communication and team working skills.
