JOB DESCRIPTION:


We are inviting all technically skilled individuals who have basic knowledge of irrigation systems (basic plumbing and electrical work) to apply for the position of Irrigation Teamleader at Fancourt.

The ideal candidate will have passed Grade 12 or equivalent, obtained a code 8 drivers’ license, an electrical red seal qualification, VSD’s and PLCs, and has at least 2 years’ experience in irrigation, electrical and mechanical work, preferably in a golf course environment. You do not need to be an electrical engineer, or qualified mechanic, but you must be able to prove that you have basic mechanical and electrical skills, and has been successful in the past in carrying out similar duties to what this role would require you to do.

We are looking for someone who is dependable, pays attention to detail, shows initiative, and can innovate. The candidate will also be able to show that he / she can think analytically and systematically go about solving problems. There is also a high requirement for doing work independently and unsupervised,
and still deliver on expectations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring the overall effective functioning of and diagnosing faults on the irrigation system (maintain, repair, and overhaul irrigation systems, equipment and pumps);
  • Cleaning and maintaining sprinklers, satellite boxes and pump stations;
  • Dismantle defective equipment for repair, using hand and / or other relevant tools;
  • Record details of repairs made and parts used;
  • Requisition the purchase of stock and spares;
  • Reassemble pumps and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary;
  • Test and replace minor electrical components and wiring, using test meters, and hand tools;
  • Examine and listen to equipment, do inspection reports on irrigation equipment;
  • Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders, or saws.
This role needs someone with the ability to work additional hours and on public holidays, if required. It also requires the candidate to be able and prepared to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
