POSITION INFO:

Tax Accountant

Our client an accounting practice looking for a tax accountant to join our client''''s team and manage their  client''''s company and individual taxes, as well as get involved in the accounting side of things.

They deal with  a lot to clients (via calls and emails) so you need to be able to communicate effectively and clearly. The need to provide feedback to fellow staff and clients can never be overestimated.

Position should suit an individual who finished studies with no prior experience or someone who is still busy with studies but has more than 1 year work experience in accounting or a similar function.  

Duties & Responsibilities

Deadline Driven

• If you do not like deadlines, read no further. SARS is about deadlines.

Efiling

• Know the ins and outs and how to do things (TCCs, SARS registered details updates, Profile merging, Tax Profile activation, Taxpayer requests etc etc).
• Monitor, manage, and implement any required updates to taxpayer information.
• Disputes - You must know the process, what is required, how to do it, and when it is best to go to SARS for an appointment.

SARS

• Be willing to go to SARS for appointments when required.

Provisional Tax – Companies

• You must know how to assess an income statement and balance sheet for completeness and accuracy - And then raise queries with the bookkeeper or client if something is doesn''''''''''''''''t look right.
• You must be able to use the above information to prepare bi-annual provisional tax calculations for clients.
• You must be able to submit and monitor company provisional tax returns and payments thereof.

Provisional Tax – Individuals

• You must be able to guide our individual taxpayers with regards to workings/documents required for provisional tax.
• You must be able to prepare bi-annual provisional tax calculations for individual taxpayers.
• You must be able to monitor individual taxpayers for provisional tax requirements i.e., when they qualify, when they no long qualify.
• You must be to submit and monitor individual provisional tax returns and payments thereof.

Income Tax - Companies

• You need to be up to date with the latest SARS ITR templates, to advise the accounting team with regards to disclosures required in client annual financial statements for tax return completion purposes.
• You must be able to use the above information to prepare income tax calculations for clients.
• You must be able to submit and monitor company income tax returns and payments thereof.

Income Tax - Individuals

• You need to be up to date with the latest SARS ITR templates, to advise the clients with possible allowances, and additional information required for disclosures for tax return completion purposes.
• You must be able to use the above information to prepare income tax calculations for clients.
• You must be able to submit and monitor individual income tax returns and payments thereof.

Dividends, donation, and other withholding tax

• You must be able to prepare and submit dividends, donations, and other withholding tax returns as well as the various deadlines for the returns. 

Accounting - Last but not least

• Outside of the various tax seasons you will be required to assist in the preparations of financial statements for companies, sole proprietor is, trusts and partnerships.
• You might also be requited to assist with cashbook processing if needed.
• You must have good knowledge of the VAT Act, income tax act and IFRS for SME’s to assist you in your duties.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• BComm Accounting or tax
• Involvement in some or all the above responsibilities for 1-2 years.
• Passion for tax
• Article experience would be advantageous
• Registered as a tax practitioner or able to register as a tax practitioner would be advantagous
