- Assist lecturers with facilitation of the learning processes in the Department
- Preparation and recycling of raw ceramic materials and glazes
- Maintain material inventory and stock control
- Packing and firing of kilns
- Maintenance of tools, machinery, equipment, kilns and foundry
- Manage and operationalise studios and facilities linked to 3-D studio practice
- Clean and maintain equipment
- Assist with setup of exhibitions, preparation of spaces, moving of display furniture and installation.
CORE COMPETENCIES |
- Knowledge and/or experience of traditional modelling and casting techniques (e.g. lost wax, carving), 3-D modelling technology (e.g. 3-D printing), cold-casting (e.g. resin, cement fondue), and emerging modelling techniques
- Working knowledge of all ceramics materials, fabrication processes and specialised ceramic equipment
- Proven competency in the functions pertinent to the managing, stocking and maintenance of a large studio environment and its machinery, including a foundry and its systems
- Experience of techniques, processes, technologies and production as it pertains to contemporary practices in the disciplines of ceramics and sculpture.
- Demonstrate techniques in the use of specialized equipment and their associated safety protocols
- See that welding kits, power tools and saws, wheels, mixers, slab rollers, pugmill, electric and gas kilns are in working condition at all times.
- Computer literacies commensurate with the requirements of general administration and inventory control, including obtaining quotes, requisitions, job requests and budget.
- Knowledge of health and safety issues pertaining to ceramic and sculpture studio practices
- Ability to work in a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates should possess a at least a matriculation certificate and certificates of competency for the machinery and equipment they claim to have expertise in, or testimonials from reputable engineering workshops, foundries or studios where they have gained a minimum of five years relevant industry experience.
