SUMMARY:
A leading Waste Management company is seeking the services of a Systems Enabling Technologies Manager for its Head Office in Germiston.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Systems & Enabling Technology manager oversees the successful digital strategy development, management, and execution for the department, ensuring that company maintains a modernised IT environment which supports the businesses objectives and drives efficiencies and competitiveness

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategy development

    • Establish and lead the company’s digital systems strategy and roadmap, in support and aligned to the overall vision and strategy of the business.

    • Prioritise, direct, and lead the implementation of new IT projects.

  • Service delivery and execution

    • Lead and manage (Plan, implement and evaluate) and assume overall accountability for the departments project execution and service delivery.

    • Oversee and govern the technical direction of all IT projects and digital initiatives through the entire lifecycle:

      • Defining requirements / acceptance criteria

      • Co-ordinating key stakeholders (internal and external)

      • Technical architecture and technology choice

      • Development and project management

      • Implementation and change management

    • Develop excellent understanding and insights of the businesses and industry related processes. Assist in proactive identification and motivation of strategic digital projects.

    • Oversee the continuous enhancement, maintenance and support of existing applications and systems.

  • Relationship management

    • Develop and nurture relationships between key business stakeholders and 3rd party partners. Including key relationships in subsidiary markets (Peru, Chile, Spain and France)

    • Actively engage with key business stakeholders, building effective relationships which will influence the successful alignment of the IT strategies, direction, and adoption.

  • Team management

    • Lead, support and develop the Systems and Enabling Technologies personnel.

    • Manage the team’s workload in line with the company’s priorities and deliverables.

    • Manage succession, training, and skills development within the team to ensure resource capability and business continuity.

  • Finance and vendor management

    • Prepare, execute, and control the departments capital and expense budgets.

    • Oversee IT vendors and service providers, focusing on activities related to contract negotiation, controlling costs, ensuring service delivery / SLA and mitigating business continuity / dependency related risks.

  • Governance and risk management

    • Establish, implement, and maintain IT system and application policies, protocols, procedures, and standards.

    • Support IT audits

    • Monitor and proactively implement IT risk management controls.

    • Oversee the coordination of routine application upgrades, redundancy testing and maintenance.

       

      Qualifications and competencies:

      Education:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, commerce, or engineering

  • Postgraduate degree advantageous Profile:

  • 7+ years of technology experience

  • 5+ years (managerial) experience at a senior organisational level

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in leading and supporting technical teams

  • Strong knowledge of system architectural principles aligned to operational and business processes, technical expertise in application design, development, and data warehousing

  • Proven track record and experience in leading IT projects and teams (Internal and External) through the project entire lifecycle and achieving success across key deliverables (objectives, budget, and time)

  • Excellent skills in planning, communicating, implementing, and achieving business objectives and goals through effective collaboration and management of others

  • Strong understanding of key business concepts and operational processes

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders in a clear and concise manner

  • Strong understanding of data analysis, business application architecture, IT innovation trends and operational processes

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Effective planning and budgeting skills

  • Willing to travel locally and overseas
