Study Coordinator (Wits VIDA)

Main purpose of the job:

• To administer, maintain and coordinate the logistical aspects of clinical trials according to good clinical practice, the study protocol, and the standard operating procedures and to act as a pivotal point of contact for the clinical trial team and the donors

Location:

• VIDA – Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital – Soweto, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Oversee study recruitment and follow-up
• Trouble-shoot pro-actively in order to ensure recruitment targets are met
• Interact with and report to study principal investigator timeously
• Manage study staff
• Maintain screening logs and keep track of screenings vs. enrolments
• Establish reasons for screened participants not being enrolled and report back at weekly meetings. Intervene pro-actively as required
• Ensure that employees are providing participants with correct study-specific information and ensure that GCP and ICF procedures are correctly followed
• Manage scheduled and unscheduled patient visits and appointments in accordance with the study protocol
• Schedule patient visits and record visits in the research calendar
• Assist nursing staff if required, based on the scope of practice
• Report any adverse events within required time frames, as needed per study-specific requirements
• Complete relevant questionnaires, assessments, and documentation as per delegated study tasks
• Complete CRF entries
• Update and maintain patient files and ensure files are safely archived
• Perform relevant study administration i.e., checking laboratory invoices
• Quality control patient files
• Pro-actively resolve protocol and data queries
• Prepare files for monitoring visits and requirements
• Meet with Monitors as and when required
• Ensure regulatory requirements and reporting requirements are met – prior to study start, during the study, and at study, close Interact with sponsors and external stakeholders in a professional manner

Required minimum education and training:

• Grade 12
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) essential

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum of 2 years in a research environment

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Confidence, communication skills, planning, and organizational skills, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a pressurized environment and is required to meet tight turnaround times in high volumes
• Ability to multi-task
• Advanced level of computer literacy
