Study Coordinator (Nurse) Wits VIDA

Main purpose of the job:

• Coordination of all aspects of clinical research study activities and responsible for ensuring smooth and effective delivery and conduct of clinical research projects

Location:

• Wits VIDA - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Labour Ward Complex - Soweto - Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Ensure all potential participants are being screened and enrolled by doing daily stats
• Compare screening logs with enrolment logs to determine how many screened participants were not enrolled. Continuous updating of screening/enrolment and delegation logs
• Establish a reason for screened participants not being enrolled to report back at weekly meetings
• Ensure that employees that screen and enroll are providing participants with correct study-specific information and ensure that GCP and ICF procedures are correctly followed
• Manage scheduled and unscheduled patient visits and appointments in accordance with the study protocol
• Report any adverse events within the required time frames
• Complete relevant documentation and CRFs
• Update and maintain patient files and ensure files are safely archived
• Perform relevant study administration i.e. ensure adequate stock at all times
• Quality control patient files. Pro-actively resolve protocol and data queries
• Collecting medical history from participants
• Ensure that all study procedures are fulfilled
• Storage of samples in the labor ward and liaison with the laboratory for effective and correct storage of samples as required
• Maintenance of equipment for sample storage
• Shipment of samples to VIDA lab from labor ward
• Maintenance of site files and applicable logs
• Updating progress reports and preparing reports as required
• Allocation and management of staff according to skills and project requirements
• Staff training on protocol, SOP, and other study-related skills
• Maintain good relationship with labor ward and other maternity staff
• Maintain study area in labor ward in a clean and neat state
• Willing to work overtime when required

Required minimum education and training:

• Grade 12
• Professional Nurse Qualification and Valid SANC registration
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Valid GCP certification is essential

Required minimum work experience:

• 2-3 years of experience in a research environment
• Demonstrated experience with coordination of studies

Professional body registration:

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Excellent clinical skills
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team essential
• Attention to detail, enthusiasm, and hard working
• Motivated, Organised, Friendly, Professional
• Computer literacy in MS Word and MS Excel is essential
• The ability to work independently
