Study Coordinator - Nurse (12 Months Contract)

POSITION INFO:

Main purpose of the job:

• Responsible for coordinating all the trial activities that result in seamless running of conducting a clinical research project
• To administer, maintain and coordinate the logistical aspects of the study according to good clinical practice, the study protocol, and the standard operating procedures and to act as a point of contact for the study team and the donors

Location:

• Mangweni CHC, Nkomazi sub-District, Ehlanzeni District, Mpumalanga

Key performance areas:

Patient screening, recruitment, and enrolment:

• Ensure that the patient recruitment workflow is well understood, followed, and aligned to the study protocol
• Screening:
• Identify patients and screen all potential patients
• Communication of information sheet contents to patients and HWCs
• Completion of the screening log
• Recruitment:
• Recruit patients according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Informed consent to be sought from patients who agree to be part of the study
• Confirm patient details and record them on the recruitment log
• Ensure that all study documentation is completed according to the protocol
• Mark recruited files with a sticker for easy identification
• Enrolment:
• Ensure that HCWs enroll patients in relevant study programs
• Ensure that patients are enrolled in relevant study programs
• Ensure that the patient gets a welcome message via SMS upon enrolment
• Educate patients on retrieval of messages on their phones using the USSD command

Coordinate follow-up patient visits:

• Ensure that follow-up patients are easily recognized
• Ensure patient information is updated during a follow-up visit

Quality assurance:

• Screen patient files on a daily basis to ensure that all documents are completed and stored as per the study protocol
• Review information on the dashboard to ensure accurate data has been captured
• Provide regular feedback to monitors
• Resolve CRF and data queries and all issues picked up during quality assurance

Health care workers training and supervision during the study:

• Ensure that continuous training and change management is done to ensure that all staff within the health care facility are aware of the system enrolment process

Required minimum education and training:

• Qualification in Healthcare, Medical technologist/ nursing or equivalent

Professional body registration:

• Registration with HPCSA/SANC

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum of 3 years Study Coordinator experience

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Must be a fast learner and have the ability to adapt to an agile work environment
• Experience in good clinical practice (GCP) and HIV management
• Experience in research will be advantageous
• GCP training ideal
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Accountability is of major importance
• Maintenance of confidentiality will be required
• Experience in project management
• Attention to detail is paramount
• Good organizational and administrative skills
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent decision-making
• Time management is key to prioritizing own workload to meet tight deadlines
• Self-motivated with high regard for work ethic, values, and integrity
• Display concern for patients and willingness to respond to patients’ needs and requirements
• Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles and patient care
