SUMMARY:
To develop, promote and manage the sport activities and profile of the University Rugby club program

POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

 

To develop, promote and manage the sport activities and profile of the University Rugby club programmes at all levels of delivery, including elite, club, residential, recreational, social and community engagement.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

The key performance areas for this post are to:

  • Manage sporting activities and increase student participation in sport and recreation.
  • Oversee contractual arrangements between Nelson Mandela University and players and coaches.
  • Manage high-performance sport programmes for Nelson Mandela University students and provincial/national sporting bodies.
  • Manage recreational and sport outreach programmes for Nelson Mandela University students and staff, as well as community members.
  • Monitor the standard of the sports facilities and equipment.
  • Co-ordinate and manage opportunities for Nelson Mandela University participation and hosting of prestige sporting events at a local, regional and national level.
  • Manage human resources in the sport club.
  • Manage budgets in the sport club.

CORE COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

Core competencies for this post include:

  • In-depth knowledge of Sport Management principles, practices, and their application.
  • In-depth knowledge of Rugby structures locally, nationally and internationally. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the rules, techniques, practice and match requirements of rugby.
  • In-depth knowledge of Sport Legislation, Policy and Regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Sport Marketing Principles, Practices and Applications.
  • Knowledge of Sport Controlling bodies and their structures and functions.
  • Knowledge of Event Management Principles, Practices and Applications.
  • Experience of University Rugby Administration
  • Excellent project and programme management skills.
  • Good motivational skills.
  • Good liaison, networking and marketing skills.
  • Strong financial management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong people management and skills.
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office/Project, E-mail and Internet)

Please note that the working hours extend to weekends and after-hours.

In order to be considered for appointment to the above post, candidates must possess a degree or diploma in Human Movement Science and/or Sport Management and have a minimum of four years’ experience in which competence has been gained. The successful incumbent will be required to manage or become involved in other sports as and when operational requirements dictate.
