POSITION INFO:

Together with our client in the Medical Sector, we are recruiting for a Specialised Therapeutic Services Medical Manager to be based in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. The ideal candidate must hold an MBChB degree with additional qualification/ 3 years experience in the field of haematology, haematopathology, internal medicine, transfusion medicine or related field

 

Role Purpose:

  • To provide clinical oversight and management, timely medical advice and ensure implementation of all medical matters relating to clinical apheresis patients, Specialised Therapeutics Services (STS) clinical staff, and medical doctors managing clinical apheresis patients.
  • To provide training and development to clinical staff and medical doctors managing clinical apheresis patients.
  • To promote the product and service offering to new and existing clinical units.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement and manage clinical care protocols and systems for clinical apheresis.
  • Collaborate with Lead Consultant Cellular Therapies & Novel Product (CELLTAN) to develop a business plan for the department aligned with the Mission and Vision, with supporting budget and resource requirements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, strategies and standards to accomplish the Vision and Mission
  • Effective participation in national initiatives relating to the setting of standards and policy development.
  • Develop protocols and procedures to guide operational implementation and practice in the specialized area of expertise.
  • Develop, manage and report on relationships with external stakeholders, including treating clinicians, doctor and hospital groups and specialist associations.
  • Liaise remotely/in person with hospital healthcare worker teams to optimize patient care.
  • Conduct performance management and monitor performance on on-going basis through mentoring, coaching, and reviews and take appropriate steps to correct problems.
  • Track & encourage individual development by identifying learning and development needs & facilitate attendance of relevant programs.
  • Communicate the outcome of the research to relevant stakeholders and obtain buy-in to improve our (Client) value proposition.
  • Provide medical advice regarding the suitability of individuals to donate stem cells and participate in clinical trials
  • Manage complex clinical operational problems which fall outside the scope of practice and expertise of technical and nursing staff in respect of the interpretation of results of blood compatibility tests, instances of complex serological problems, to determine the clinical significance of laboratory test results.

 

Qualification and Experience Required

  • MBChB Degree
  • Registration with HPCSA
  • Additional qualification/ 3 years’ experience in the field of haematology, haematopathology,internal medicine, transfusion medicine or related field
  • Current GCP certification would be advantageous
  • Medical practitioner with 5 years’ experience managing hospital in-patients in academic hospital at medical officer / registrar level
  • Ideal: Additional experience as clinical trial investigator, clinical research associate or similar.
  • Additional experience working in a clinical quality system
  • Understanding of extracorporeal modalities in clinical care (e.g. dialysis, apheresis).
  • Good clinical acumen in hospitalised patients.
  • Understanding of the clinical indications for the transfusion of blood products.
  • Work in person and remotely with teams of doctors, nurses, health administrative staff,
  • blood bank staff.
  • Ability to influence people outside of one’s direct control.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of hospital systems involved in patient care.
