A Social Auxiliary Worker (3 Years Fixed Term Contract) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium, at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (Johannesburg Multihospital Palliative Care Project) in Johannesburg - Gauteng.

Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
Main purpose of the job
- Provide psycho-social support to palliative care patients and their families
- Provide ongoing supervision and mentoring to social auxiliary workers
Location
- Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (Johannesburg Multihospital Palliative Care Project)
Key performance areas
- Capture patient information on Redcap
- Collect relevant counselling statistics on a daily basis
- Consolidate weekly and monthly counselling statistics
- Attend meetings as required and provide feedback to the relevant parties
- Compile reports as needed by the project
- Update participant records after each visit once they have been consulted
- Perform Adhoc duties as requested by line managers
- Create Brand awareness amongst both internal and external stakeholders by doing presentations to interested parties upon request
- Conduct health education to patients and their families on social issues and the needs
- Conduct family meetings as part of the MDT
- Conduct support groups for patients and their families
- Work under the supervision of Social Worker
- Conduct individual counselling sessions with patients as scheduled in line with Standard Operating Procedures
- Conduct family counselling sessions and family meetings as scheduled in line with Standard Operating Procedure
- Provide emotional support/counselling for patients and families exhibiting psycho-social problems
- Escalate and refer serious psychosocial situations to the Social Worker as required
Required minimum education and training
- Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work
- Professional body registration with South African Council for Social Work Profession
- Computer literacy
Required minimum work experience
- At least 2 years experience in Health care Social Auxiliary Work
