Site Engineer

Market-related Salary

The primary purpose of the Site Engineer is to optimise Wind Farm performance by analysing failures, ascertaining their root cause and proposing solutions. In addition, the Site Engineer oversees day-to-day activities of the O&M contractor, assisting them to meet contractual obligations and optimise plant performance. The role is also responsible for identifying and overseeing or executing improvement projects. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Fault-finding and analysis on wind turbine errors

1.1. Identify root cause of faults or underperformance of wind turbines and initiate corrective actions to resolve it.1.2. Analyse reports, SCADA alarms, event logs and similar data platforms to keep track of and improve the plant’s performance.1.3. Responsible for closing power plant event investigations and driving event communications.1.4. Use of fault-finding techniques and specialised tools, software or techniques to identify underperformance and ensure that plant gets returned to standard levels of performance.1.5. Provide escalated support to the Contractor to resolve complex problems.1.6. Identify performance analysis improvements.

Operations and Maintenance Management

2.1. Inspect condition of turbines for electrical, hydraulic and mechanical soundness.2.2. Regularly access turbines to audit equipment health and maintenance effectiveness.2.3. Develop, drive and implement processes and procedures that ensure the safe operation of the power plants.2.4. Responsible for housekeeping and overall condition of the turbines and related equipment.2.5. Provide planning and scheduling support to the O&M contractor team on-site.2.6. Contribute to the development of maintenance systems.2.7. Collect and assimilate all technical literature/documents related to the equipment and create a repository for storing these specifications, procedures and training manuals.

Contractor Management

3.1. Day-to-day management of contracting staff in the absence of the Site Manager

.3.2. Audit work performed by the O&M contractor, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards

3.3. Foster positive work environment.

3.4. Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.

4. Project Management

4.1. Manage a wide spectrum of projects on the wind farm.

4.2. Build simple project programmes to manage technical / engineering solutions to identified problems.

5. Health and Safety

5.1. Ensure site-wide compliance with Globeleq’s HSE systems and procedures.

5.2. Ensure a safe working environment and eliminate sub-standard conditions by complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the applicable environmental acts.

5.3. Assist in management of prescribed authorization and competency matrixes.
5.4. Act as GMR 2.7 in support of the GMR 2.1 and any other legal appointment to ensure health and safety is managed.


6.
General or administrative tasks

6.1. Be responsible for following all cooperative safety policies and procedures.

6.2. Manage site procurement in consultation with line manager, within delegated limits.

6.3. Monitor and identify continuous and focused improvement opportunities.

6.4. Any other tasks in line with the role. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent NQF level qualification.

2. Minimum three years of relevant working experience.

3. Demonstrated competence in the use of Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The following requirements will be regarded as an advantageous to the candidate in the role:

4. Competency in root cause analysis methodologies

5. Experience in renewable energy power plant operations or field maintenance.

6. Knowledge of SCADA systems.

7. Knowledge of, or experience in, ERP/CMMS systems such as SAP, IFS or OnKey.

8. Working knowledge of renewable energy power plant operations and performance.
