JOB DESCRIPTION:

Short Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to take control of the silo equipment and plants. You will be responsible to assist the Agricultural Resource Manager with the movement and storage of all incoming seed, storage of oilcake, oilcake bagging and loading activities related to silo control. You will too be responsible for the oilcake storage facilities and to ensure the operation of all tasks related to it. You will be responsible for managing all personnel reporting to you.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to take control of all machinery and its operation in the department.
  • Responsible to oversee the stop and start of all equipment within silo complexes.
  • Report all breakdowns, deviations, and defects regarding equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with tasks during breakdowns to ensure efficient plant availability.
  • Responsible for weigh-in and record-keeping of all incoming seed.
  • Responsible for grading all incoming seed.
  • Responsible for supervision of offloading of seed.
  • Responsible for allocation of the seed to the relevant silos.
  • Responsible for drying the seed.
  • Responsible for monitoring the temperature monitoring of the seed and cake silos.
  • Ensure continuous aeration of all silos.
  • Responsible to monitor cake silo and seed silo levels and the product structure and formation within the silo.
  • Monitor and report fill levels of all product levels within silos and report to Agricultural Resource Manager.
  • Responsible for supervising silo cleaning and inspections.
  • Responsible to recycle oilcake within cake silos continuously according to the program.
  • Responsible to ensure filling of holding bin for bagging units according to planning schedule.
  • Responsible and taking control of the cake bagging unit.
  • Ensure all bagged product is stored according to good storage practices.
  • Responsibility to load bulk oil meal loads from meal storage silos.
  • Responsible to ensure good housekeeping practices and compliance with Master Cleaning Schedules.
  • Ensure his subordinates are controlled and ensure at all times that they are efficiently performing.
  • Responsible for all employees regarding timekeeping and reporting to Agricultural Resource Manager.
  • Ensure policy and procedure will be applied at all times and assist Agricultural Resource Manager.
  • Available for all training as required and scheduled by Management.
  • Comply with Safety, Food Safety and Environmental procedure and as per SOILL policy
  • Assist with any other reasonable relevant task allocated by Agricultural Resource Manager.
Key Competencies:

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
  • Seed Grading Certificate will be an advantage
  • Applicable grain grading and handling experience is essential
  • Previous experience in grain handling and conveying equipment is an advantage
  • A forklift license will be an advantage
  • Literate in English and Afrikaans
  • Shift work is required for this position
  • After hours call-out is required for this position
  • Weekend call-out is required for this position
  • Overtime is required for peak season
