POSITION INFO:

Short Summary:

The main responsibility of this position is to take control of the silo equipment and plant daily.
This position will be responsible for the movement and storage of all incoming seeds and will be responsible for supervising and managing all personnel reporting to him.

Responsibilities:

• The Silo Operator will be responsible to take control and operate all machinery related to the silo.
• The Silo Operator will be responsible to stop and start all equipment within the silo complexes and ensuring all equipment and machinery are operating efficiently and safely.
• To report all breakdowns, deviations, and defects regarding equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Must assist maintenance personnel with their task during breakdowns to ensure efficient plant operations.
• Weigh, grade, and offload all incoming seeds to the allocated silo and monitor the temperature of the silo.
• Responsible to continuously monitor silo levels and the product structure and formation within the silo.
• Monitor and report fill levels of all products within the silo to the Agricultural Resource Manager.
• Ensure continuous quality monitoring of all the products within the silo.
• Report all quality deviations to Agricultural Resource Manager
• Ensure good storage practices are upheld at the silo.
• Ensure good housekeeping practices and compliance to master cleaning schedules.
• The Silo Operator will be responsible to supervise his team at all times.
• The Silo Operator will ensure his team is efficiently performing their tasks according to the plan.
• Ensure all the policies and procedures of SOILL are applied at all times.
• Be available for relevant training as required and scheduled by Management.
• Comply to safety, food safety, and environmental procedures as per the SOILL policy.
• It can be expected from all employees to be appointed with certain responsibilities as required by the OSH Act, food safety, and environmental regulations.
• Any other reasonable relevant task allocated by the Agricultural Resource Manager.

Key Competencies:

Education and Experience

• Minimum of Grade 12
• Computer Literate
• Literate in English and Afrikaans
• A forklift license is essential
• Applicable grain grading and handling experience
• Previous experience in conveying equipment
