Senior Technical Team Leader (Fire Systems)-Gauteng -Neg

 

Fire Prevention Specialist and Technology Company seek a Senior Technical Team Leader to complete technical price estimations, provide technical specifications and provide industry-leading and value-for-money solutions for customers.

 

Qualifications

 

NQF 6 in Business Management / Cost Management / Finance or similar is required

NQF 5 qualification in management/team leadership is preferred

ASIB / IFE Certificate or similar is required

In the absence of relevant qualifications, experience in the relevant field and at the relevant level will be considered.

 

Experience

 

3 – 5 years’ experience as an Estimator in Fire Protection is required

1 – 2 years of supervisory experience

 

Project Estimation

 

Manage estimation Workplan by receiving estimation requests, allocating to workplan, prioritising in line with deadlines and delivering on time and to standard

Coordinate estimation for allocated projects by preparing for a project, understanding estimation requirements, defining preliminary estimates, and managing the delivery of final estimate to standard and by deadlines as scheduled and per agreed project plan

Participate in project meetings to understand customer, operations, design, and sales requirements by attending, verifying technical requirements and specifications, verifying compliance complexities, discussing project timing and deadlines, and gathering information to develop an estimate as scheduled and required.

Verify estimate quality and completeness by reviewing submitted designs, verifying against technical and compliance requirements, verifying allocation of costing, and approving before submitting to Sales and stakeholders within the deadline.

Present estimate to project teams (sales and operations) by attending meetings, presenting estimate, receiving feedback, debating amendments and impact on an estimate, and implementing approved changes within the deadline

Complete post-implementation profit analysis by participating in post-project implementation review, evaluating estimation assumptions versus actual, calculating costs, developing technical and estimation recommendations to improve future project profitability, and submitting for approval within the agreed deadline.

Build mutually supportive and responsive relationships with project team members (sales and operations) and customers by engaging on project requirements, providing technical and estimate support and always contributing to overall project success and as required

 

Technical Expertise and Enhancement

 

Support all departments with providing technical expertise by compiling, clarifying, and correcting technical specifications, providing feedback to clients and industry professionals, and supporting the sales consultant to deliver industry-leading and cost-effective solutions as required and at all times.

Mentor project team members on technical design and compliance by reviewing project inputs, providing guidance and technical advice, and supporting improved delivery from project team members as required

Always maintain technical expertise by participating in forums and workshops, sharing with, and learning from other industry experts and researching new enhancements and requirements as required

Apply current good practice standards to projects by reviewing project proposals, identifying opportunities for technical enhancement and improvement, presenting recommendations and leading implementation of approved enhancements as and when required

 

Pricing

 

Complete estimations for specialist technical designs by defining technical requirements for specialist items in the specification, identifying suppliers, securing quotations (in line with the procurement process) and completing estimates by the deadline

Update the estimation price list by defining components, calculating component pricing, updating with amendments, and always checking for accuracy and completeness

Verify and improve estimation principles, procedures, standards, and assumptions by critically evaluating, identifying opportunities for improvement, developing recommendations, piloting, and implementing when approved and within deadlines

Critically evaluate Cross Fire Pricing in comparison with competitor information by receiving data, evaluating, developing recommendations, submitting for approval, and implementing within deadlines, when approved

Complete estimates for sales proposals by completing initial estimates for proposals, engaging with design and sales to enhance pricing, and discussing technical improvements, risks, opportunities and cost management options as required and within the agreed deadline

 

Estimation Administration

 

• Complete estimation administration by completing tasks, updating plans, and fulfilling any additional administrative requirements within deadlines and to standards • Complete estimation reports by gathering information, collating, and completing in a defined format within agreed deadline • Complete administration by filing estimates according to filing convention and in filing framework, updating required databases, and fulfilling any other administrative tasks as required and within deadline • Manage project estimation profitability by tracking project costs, identifying opportunities for project cost management, always implementing estimation improvements and tracking project/estimation errors and costs monthly and at all times

 

Staff Supervision

 

• Participate in staff recruitment and onboarding by supporting the development of job descriptions, participating in recruitment processes, participating in interviews, and inducting new staff as required • Supervise staff by defining performance expectations, providing staff with feedback on performance, addressing any areas of misconduct or non-performance, implementing compliant disciplinary measures when required and building relationships with staff at all times • Develop staff by identifying skills gaps and supporting staff to develop skills monthly and as required • Comply with HR policies and procedures by tracking staff behaviour, addressing non-compliance and implementing corrective action as required • Coach and mentor team members to build competence and capability by identifying areas for growth, providing guidance and support and monitoring application of learning as required and at all times.

 

Risk and Compliance

 

• Maintain expert knowledge on technical estimation regulations, legislation, and standards by attending allocated training, reading relevant information, participating in forums, and integrating expertise and insight into team learning and estimation at all times. • Manage team estimation compliance with legislation and regulation by checking estimations against requirements, identifying non-compliance, managing amendments, and signing off compliant estimations within deadlines • Identify and resolve estimation risks by identifying, evaluating, developing recommendations, submitting to the relevant manager for approval and implementing the final solution within deadline • Manage estimation cost-effectiveness by tracking estimation errors, evaluating cost, identifying the cause, resolving, updating processes, and continually improving quality of estimation output at all times • Report on risk and compliance by collecting information, collating, reviewing, interpreting, making recommendations and documenting in defined formats by agreed deadlines.
