Senior Lecturer: Clinical Skills - Health Science

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To manage a Clinical Skills Laboratory on the Missionvale campus that caters for Medical and Health Professional students.

To facilitate and deliver high quality undergraduate learning and teaching activities in Clinical and Professional Skills.

To contribute to research.

 KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Management of a Clinical Skills Laboratory for simulated learning activities for a range of Heath Professional programmes.
2. Facilitating the delivery of integrated clinical and practical modules that require the use of the Clinical Skills Laboratory.
3. Teaching undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences students in clinical and professional skills.
4. Assessment of students, including formative and summative assessment.
5. Providing timeous academic and related support to students.
6. Budgeting, inventory, and stock control for the Clinical Skills Laboratory.
7. To be involved in research activities of the Medical School and Faculty of Health Sciences, including supervision.

CORE COMPETENCIES 

1. Sound management, organisational and administrative skills, including financial management.
2. Experience in simulation teaching and learning with student-focused teaching skills.
3. Experience in up-to-date and technology-enhanced teaching and blended learning.
4. Ability to provide oversight to ensure that assessments are quality-controlled and standardized, and that learning materials and equipment are in place.
5. Understanding of simulation based education.
6. Support and contribution to clinical and professional skills research.
7. MSWord, PowerPoint and Excel skills and the willingness to learn internal software programs.

POST REQUIREMENTS

Academic

Undergraduate degree in a Health Profession

Master’s degree in a Clinical or Health Professions education field

PhD will be an advantage  

Registration

Registered with the relevant Health Professional authority and/or membership of a recognised clinical society is South Africa.

Teaching and work experience

A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in teaching clinical and professional skills to Health Science students in a clinical skills laboratory.

Management and budgeting experience.

Proven track record of involvement in simulation based education at a Health Sciences Faculty.

Research

Evidence of research involvement and publications are to be provided.
