CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills of Clinical Pharmacology by Medical and Health Sciences students

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Lead teaching and learning in Clinical Pharmacology in the MBChB Program
2. Develop curricula and learning material for Clinical Pharmacology in the MBChB Program
3. Conduct student assessments in a standardized manner
4. Work together with the Faculty of Health Sciences to establish academic engagement in the clinical practice setting
5. Take an active role in research, including the supervision of undergraduate and post graduate Health Science students.
6. Interact with stakeholders in the areas of Clinical Pharmacology
7. Perform academic administrative duties

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. In-depth knowledge of the theory and application of Clinical Pharmacology in a clinical setting
2. Experience in teaching, learning, and assessment of health science students from a student centred approach
3. Experience in blended learning and teaching
4. Experience in the development of curricula and learning material in Clinical Pharmacology
5. Experience in stakeholder liaison and networking in the Pharmacology sphere

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

A relevant PhD or MBChB with a Masters’ degree in a medical specialty with appropriate experience in Clinical Pharmacology

Registration

Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist or with the HPCSA

Experience and skills

3-5 years’ work experience in the Clinical Pharmacology field

2 years teaching experience in Clinical Pharmacology at university level

Proven track record of research output and publications.
