CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to lead and manage studio based architectural education at various levels by integrating theoretical and pragmatic knowledge that is globally and locally relevant and in alignment with the vision of the department and to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills by learners towards effective functioning within a profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• To lead and manage studio based architectural education in architectural design, advanced building construction and professional practice.
• To conduct and publish research leading to enrichening the studio work.
• To perform administrative work.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• In-depth knowledge of design process and design studio management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• In-depth knowledge in advanced building construction concepts, techniques and systems and building regulations.
• In-depth knowledge of the application of sustainable environmental control systems in the design 0f advanced buildings.
• In-depth knowledge of South African architectural professional practice and contractual law.
• Have the potential to contribute to knowledge creation by virtue of publications and/or the potential to contribute by virtue of the introduction of new learning material.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

REQUIREMENTS

• In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have a relevant M Arch(Prof) degree or equivalent within Architectural Design with a minimum of seven years of professional  and three years of teaching experience.
• The applicant must have professional registration with SACAP.
• The applicant must submit their academic results and an A3 portfolio consisting of selected architectural projects undertaken and research publications. 
• The applicant should present a mock lecture.

Candidate should clearly articulate their position and knowledge on their architectural vision. Their portfolio of works should reflect professional acumen, knowledge, and competencies.
