POSITION INFO:

Senior Java Developer required to develop and maintain system software applications based on business system requirements and queries in order to improve and enhance system functionality for the business.

Cape Town based

Role Overview

To rewrite legacy system to serve current and future clients.

Designing and implementing complex software systems and services to further grow one of the leading organisations in the industry, using cutting edge technology (development tools & frameworks) to implement the solution.

Work close with our in-house team of Systems Analysts and Architects.

Role Responsibilities

• Full stack development experience (UI, Server-side, Database, OS Platform: Windows and Linux)
• Strong technical skills (Java, System Integration, Best practices, Design and Integration patterns, etc.)
• Experienced in designing, implementing and supporting greenfield systems
• Software requirements elicitation & analysis skills
• End-to-end “solutioning” of requirements (Identifying impact areas of change across the system to ensure all the components "fit")
• Solid understanding of IP networks (Network security protocols – SSH, SSL, etc.) with troubleshooting skills
• Intermediate-level system analysis and solution architecture skills
• Assist in supporting our legacy systems
• Team player

Experience

9 to 12 years senior-level experience in Java development

Knowledge of open source tools and APIs and deploying/configuring industry-leading application servers (preferably Wildfly/Weblogic)

6 to 8 years mid-level experience

• writing SQL queries, SQL query optimization
• writing and executing stored procedures
• good database design skills (preferably in Oracle)
• year experience working in Medical Aid or Managed Healthcare industry

Maintenance Experience:

• HTML/CSS and JavaScript
• Hibernate
• MyBatis
• Setup, deploy to and configure Java-based application servers
• Experience with service, enterprise or Java design patterns
• Worked with and configured Continuous Integration tool platforms (Bamboo, TeamCity, etc.)
• Familiarity with Windows Server operational activities
• Familiarity with Linux terminals operational activities

Qualifications

Degree/diploma in Information Technology.

Proficient and understands Java EE concepts: transaction management (JTA), messaging (JMS) and JDBC

Oracle - SQL writing, database design, basic query optimization including PL/SQL

Web Services (JAX-WS & JAX-RS)

Spring boot and Spring Frameworks

Maven build tools

Very competent in XML/XSD/JSON/YAML

Swagger and OpenAPI

GIT and Subversion

Logging frameworks

AWS stack and architecting Cloud-based solutions
