CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The professional Instructional Designer must be able to design and develop engaging learning and practicing experiences.  The goal is to lead and support staff and facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies through the design, development and production of digital course content for online learning and teaching within the Faculty of Health Sciences’ medical program.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Creation, design, and production of digital course content for online teaching that includes instructional graphics, videos, illustrations, animations and data visualisations
2. Co-ordination with the university’s Learning Experience Design studio and compliance with the institution’s related business processes and guidelines
3. Provision of design support for learning, teaching, research, learning analytics and academic development initiatives
4. Creative direction of digital course content in an academic and curriculum development context.
5. Work with academic subject matter experts to identify and coordinate educational training needs into the digital course content
6. Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods that enhance learning and teaching, to create content that match and meet targets
7. Conduct research and analysis on the Learner (User) experience and interface of the digital platform

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Proven work experience of at least three to five years in Graphic / Instructional Design in an academic setting at higher education / university level
2. In-depth knowledge and ability to analyse and apply latest trends and best practices in learning technologies/instructional design at higher education / university level
3. Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models at university level
4. Advanced Lesson and curriculum planning experience at higher education / university level
5. Proven ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts as part of curriculum development at higher education / university level

6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders in the Faculty of Health Sciences on different projects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

3-year qualification in Graphic Design and/or Instructional Design and/or Education

Preference will be given to candidates with higher qualifications and/or additional qualification(s) in directly associated fields.

Experience

Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of graphic and/or instructional design in the higher education field

Proven experience in LMS activity tools and administration or equivalent LMS is essential

Proven experience in Instructional Design staff training and/support in the higher education context

Proven video editing skills would be an advantage

Experience in H5P will be an added advantage

Essential competencies

Proven competence in the use of LMS for online learning (Moodle preferred)

Articulate and/or Adobe Captivate software applied in custom learning path/activity contexts

Adobe Creative Suite on Mac (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Professional) in a professional studio context

Microsoft Office Suite
