Senior ICT Support Engineer
POSITION INFO:
Our client is a State Owned Entity (SOE) focusing on IT solutions for its large sister company. The vacancy of Senior ICT Support Engineer – Linux & Security has arisen at their head office at Somerset West, Western Cape.
This will be a permanent appointment
Purpose of the Position:
The successful incumbent will be part of the ICT team to service the ICT requirements of the organization as a whole as well as the ICT related needs of the respective development programmes.
Responsibilities/Tasks:
- Report to Manager ICT and provide input and support on ICT projects where required
- Support and maintain Linux Server environments and Open Source Platforms/Tools
- Support and maintain firewall, UTM, IDS and IPS systems
- Communicate areas for improvement to management, to improve the overall effectiveness of security safeguards and controls in the organization
- Respond to emerging threats and other forms of targeted attacks, organized crime, ransomware etc.
- Implement new and maintain existing cyber security initiatives and provide input into internal IT Security standards, and implement control and risk procedures
- Advise on the installation, configuration and upgrade servers in line with policy and system requirements.
- Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions
- Installing and configuring tools for event monitoring, capacity planning, performance monitoring, etc.
- Support ICT governance initiatives and provide input into policy/procedure development
- Constant monitoring and notifications of open source vulnerabilities in our applications through the use of Nexus Repository and Nexus Lifecycle.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant tertiary IT qualification
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Redhat and CentOS skills
- 5+ years’ experience and working knowledge of Linux.
- 5+ years hands on firewalling/security experience
- 1+ years’ experience with Fortigate UTM appliances or Mikrotik firewall
- 1+ years’ experience with virtualization e.g. VMware, KVM
- Experience with performance optimization and capacity planning of virtualized environments.
- Advanced knowledge of networking fundamentals (all OSI layers)
- Strong hands-on experience and knowledge of LAN / VLAN / Wireless /VOIP and WAN technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with and knowledge of firewalling and traffic management.
- Exposure to backup products such as Backup Exec and Veeam Backup and Replication.
- Exposure to SAN storage environment administration.
Skills and Knowledge that would be an advantage
- Certifications : Linux, RHCE/RHCSA
- IT Security assessment/Ethical hacking experience advantageous
- Security related certification advantageous .e.g. CEH, Security +
- Experience with managing a Microsoft Active Directory Environments advantageous
- Experience with penetration testing, cybercrime countermeasures and cyber security assessments
- Experience with maintaining a Microsoft Exchange Server Environments
- Scripting – PHP, Bash, Pearl & Python
- Monitoring solutions such as Nagios, Zenoss, Zabbix.
- Automation/deployment tools such as Ansible
- Rolling out and support of open source solutions.
- Familiarity with Cobit/ITIL/ISO 27001
