Senior Industrial Design Draughtsman

POSITION INFO:

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN DRAUGHTSMAN, R40000-R50000 Cost to Company depending on experience/qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

• Technical Matric or Diploma in design / engineering.
• Diploma or certificate of CAD proficiency.

Experience

• 5 years minimum working with Solid Edge or Solid Worx (Solid Edge Preferred)
• 5 years minimum working in a Wood, Fibreglass / steel fabrication factory.
• CORELDRAW Experience will be advantageous.
• MS Office experience necessary.
• Configuration control experience. (Drawing revisions)

General

• Methodical worker. Must be able to handle various projects at the same time, depending on the urgency of the task.
• Good communication skills. Must be able to receive and transfer information to the appropriate departments, without creating unnecessary confusion.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and with respect to suppliers and/or clients on any issue.

Preferable

Knowledge in automotive body and trailer manufacturing

Tasks

• Design of new ranges of vans as well as the complete upgrade of the various existing ranges.
• Keep the various design principles between models separate.
• Design a Unit to comply with the Road Traffic Law.
• Design patterns for fibreglass components.
• Design steel parts which can be effectively formed and finished. (welded, spotwelded, riveted)
• Design Wood furniture, that can be cut, formed and assembled to a high quality standard.
• Design decals. (CorelDraw)
• Create nestings for the wood router machines, to effectively cut the furniture from standard wood sheets.
• Create 2D drawings to assist the assembly staff, in completing their tasks to a high standard.
• Create wiring diagrams and pipe routing drawings for all the Units, to ensure compliance to safety regulations.
• Keeping previous models intact, to ensure the capability of the manufacturer to supply various parts to the Public.
• Investigate new materials for possible uses
• Perform problem solving actions on the manufacturing and assembly lines, to improve cycle time
• Keep track of CAD and CAM licensing requirements and payments.
