Senior Actuarial Specialist

Cape Town

The Retail Protection Analytics team are responsible for data analytics. The product range includes life insurance, funeral cover, severe illness cover and disability cover.

Technical knowledge by applying actuarial, statistical and IT knowledge to build and use models using tools like Prophet, R, SQL, Python or Excel

Actuarial judgement in analysing results and using the result to drive decision-making

Taking ownership of pieces of work and driving delivery

Gaining commitment from senior stakeholders to accept proposed actions

Analytics Performing experience analyses to inform actuarial assumptions for pricing and reserving and enable data-driven decision-making.

Product Design: Providing technical input into the financial soundness, risk, client value and commercial viability for new product development proposals.

Stakeholder Management: Provide input during engagements with senior stakeholders, such as the chief actuary, segment finance leads and their teams, to communicate results, and obtain buy-in for proposed actions.

Model Development: Developing new models for experience analyses, as well as maintaining and enhancing existing models.

Business Engagement: Engaging with IT, marketing and various other areas of the business to obtain data, ensure that new premiums and premium changes are implemented successfully and communicated appropriately.

Qualified or nearly qualified Actuary

Four years’ actuarial experience with a focus on data analytics

Solid modelling experience

Advanced experience with MS Office, especially Excel, including VBA

Experience with Prophet, DCS, SQL, R, or Python

       The following will be an advantage

Prior exposure to conducting experience investigations and presenting the results of the investigations

Protection Product knowledge, product development experience

Financial reporting experience and/or actuarial modelling experience

Supervisory exposure

Ability to complete tasks within agreed timelines with minimal guidance.
