Seed Production Supervisor

SUMMARY:

An established agrochemical manufacturer is seeking the above to plan and coordinate seed production activities with seed growers in order to meet the seed availability and quality standards required, ensuring the efficient use of human resources, equipment and materials.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a tertiary qualification in agronomy or related
• SANSOR and Phytosanitary certification, and AVCASA accreditation will be an added advantage
• At least 5 years’ experience in seed production is essential
• Must be proficient in MS Office and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong teamwork capability and the ability to make informed decisions in a timely manner are important
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be prepared to travel extensively

 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Planning and coordinating seed production planning.
• Building a strong grower network and maintaining good relationships and trust.
• Utilizing available data capturing platforms to gather accurate grower information for season preparations.
• Implement Grower contracts according to company agreements.
• Supervising key agronomic activities from field selection, soil preparation, planting, weed control, insect control, disease control, fertilization and irrigation monitoring.
• Coordinating key processes, planting, detasseling, yield forecasting, harvesting and deliveries to the processing plant.
• Leading HSE efforts according to ISO45001 standards, focusing on legal compliance and identifying safety risks applying the HIRA principles.
• Ensuring compliance with ISO9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
• Recording field data in Velocity platform, to manage productions activities effectively.
• Complying with SANSOR seed certification standards and requirements.
• Supporting operational improvement initiatives, driving best practices and ensuring cost savings.
• Utilizing specialised production systems to coordinate and manage production fields effectively.
• Ensuring end-to-end operational efficiency and advance customer experience through continuous improvement initiatives
