SGS is looking for qualified and reliable Section Manager: Bulk Sample Preparation Plant who will be responsible for the day to day operations and maintenance of the associated infrastructure in the Sample Preparation facilities.

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a good understanding of sample preparation and equipment maintenance, as well as outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You will also have proven experience in a bulk sample preparation and management role, with excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you in the role, are expected to:

  • Responsible for the day to day supervision, coordination and operation of the Sample Preparation facilities.
  • Responsible for sample routing, formulating changes, improving workflow and maximum utilization of resources in the department.
  • Planning of resources and technical requirements for all major projects in the areas of accountability.
  • In collaboration with Maintenance Manager, ensures that the equipment is scheduled and performed the preventative maintenance.
  • Ensures that the equipment breakdowns are attended to timeously.
  • Responsible for achieving a high degree of project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Drive the division’s activities, by making timely technical decisions with regards to reaching the clients objectives.
  • Liaising with clients on complaints, concerns and Technical discussions.
  • Management of existing client base, and generation of new business from new and existing clients.
  • Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity.
  • Responsible for building a motivated team, focused on client service, quality and satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements (QHSE policy) of the SGS management system.
  • Determine, manage and drive initiatives in order to implement and monitor accreditation requirements as per SGS and ISO17025 requirements.
  • Must comply and conform to the Quality Management System (ISO17025 and SANAS).
  • The Health & safety, Quality management system and Production are the key responsibilities.

Qualification and Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12) – with Mathematics and Science as subjects or equivalent qualification.
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Metallurgy.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ working experience in a relevant field in the Mining industry
  • Equipment maintenance a must, for example, crushers, conveyor-belts, hoists, etc.
  • Working knowledge of sample preparation
  • Previous experience in staff supervision
  • Good coordination and management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight timelines.
  • Ability to prioritize activities and be flexible to adjust to a variety of situations.
  • Results oriented with a strong performance, cost management, and bottom-line orientation.
  • Energy to motivate a team to always deliver results.
  • Acts quickly and decisively; able to make tough calls.
  • Holds self and others accountable.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
