SUMMARY:
Unique opportunity

POSITION INFO:

1. Provide technical leadership consultancy for the development the MeerKAT Scientific computing and its relevant software
2. Provide consultancy for the development of the structure of the Scientific Computing teams
3. Contribute to the translation of business and technology needs into delivery roadmaps
4. Provide advisory and coaching to other scientific computing leads in responding to the changing team structure
5. Advise senior management and executive with respect to scientific computing within the environments

Minimum work experience required:
• Essential to have a background in radio astronomy computing

15 years of working experience in the field of information technology

• Of which at least 10 years’ experience was in scientific computing lead role
• Experience in globally distributed projects

• Essential to have proven cross disciplinary skills in hardware design, software development, physics, mathematics and a variety of engineering disciplines
Desirable additional education, work exp. & personal qualities:
• Extensive experience in a high performance computing development environment
• Fully conversant with latest trends in high performance hardware and software architecture and design, with deep expertise in these areas
• Experience in scientific research environment
• Experience in system engineering-driven environment
• Proven track record of project delivery
• Significant technical experience in architecture design and development of large software projects
• Strong ability to lead and motivate technical personnel
• Must have skill and personality to compete strongly on global basis in the scientific computing arena
• Strong presentation and idea transfer skills
