About the position:

Working with the Career Manager, and the Study Career Coach (and the Office Support Administrator), the Employment Career Coach will assist learners and Alumni in making realistic and informed choices about their career development, through the provision of a variety of services and programs and will assist in creating defined career pipelines into companies.

This role deals with a range of people, from school learners to young adults, who may want a career change or need help with further career development. The incumbent will also liaise with suppliers and employees of other organisations, who are assisting in job placement and other services.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall goal: Management of all working, unemployed and alumni on learnerships - to make sure employment targets are met, and ensure that alumni find good quality employment to assist them in becoming economically self-sufficient
  • Database:
    • Advertises and communicates with Alumni on all our Social media platforms, alongside the rest of the career team
  • Computer systems and database:
    • Responsible for accurate upkeep of Career database for current and completed alumni
    • Use of Teams, Zoom and other online systems
  • Liaison:
    • With learnership providers and employers
    • With Alumni and grade 12’s through Social media (Posting and communication with students on Alumni Facebook page, Communication on WhatsApp groups)
  • Decision making:
    • Relieves in absence of Career Manager, Study Career Coach
  • Vocational assistance and counselling:
    • Guides Grade 12s in career choices
    • Assists Alumni with career development by ensuring upskilling and strengthening, monitoring. Assist in arranging/giving advice on vacation work/volunteering/job shadowing and assistance with organising Alumni workshops and training, if needed. Cliquidity assessments.
    • Grade 12 interviews, together with study career coach
    • Co-ordinate group high school on-site application days (NSFAS, university/college, learnership and bursary applications) together with study career coach
  • Managing, organising and implementing:
    • Guides, ensures quality control of interns, volunteers, and certain projects for the Office Support Administrator
    • Assist Career Manager with co-ordination of Alumni workshops, if needed
    • Assists the Career Manager in the co-ordination and administration of the annual career week competition and HR speed interviews for grade 12, as needed
    • Matric 21 - point program for career readiness. Responsible for matric preparation for study and employment opportunities the following year. This involves liaison with universities and colleges, NSFAS and other suppliers, co-ordination of Matric interviews, CAT lab application sessions, checking all CVs, social media presence, assisting with university/college open days - in conjunction with the career study coach
    • Alumni cohorts - vocational and other assistance. Vocational assessments, liaison with employers, SETAS, etc. - upskilling by encouraging workshop attendance, strengthening where needed with referral to counselors, managing and tracking progress to reach targets
    • Accompanies career team on the learning journeys, career expos etc. if required
    • Assist Career Manager from time to time with Classroom training sessions, where needed - grade 12
