Sand Blaster

SUMMARY:
Our client, based in Olifantsfontein, requires an experienced Sand Blaster to clean dies from caustic etching of any residual caustic. Minimum 4 years’ experience in the aluminium sector would take preference. A valid Matric with knowledge of safety and appropriate PPE is essential.

POSITION INFO:
Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Identify the dies according to the next operation i.e. polishing, die trail, taken off, nitriding, die shop, modification etc.
• Give priority to the taken off dies and die trials.
• Strip the dies by the use of a chisel, Alan key and hammer.
• Sort according to parts i.e. die plates, back dies, feeders and bodies.
• Replace the cap screws to the bodies after stripping; this is done to prevent mechanical damage on both cap screws and bodies
• Load the parts according to priorities, sizes and types
• Close the sand-blasting door.
• Switch the sand-blaster extractor on
• Switch on the machine.
• Ensure that there is enough sand in the machine, if not; fill sand/beads in the machine.
• The cleanliness of the die plate will determine the sand requirements.
• Clean bodies, bridges, pots and mandrels properly.
• Bearings and other areas on the die plate where there is caustic residue must be cleaned properly.
• Run-on automatic.
• Open the door
• Lift the rails of the sand-blaster and remove the rotating table back and close the door and start the machine.
• Open door
• Lift rails up and remove the rotating table and empty the table
• Switch machine off.
  
  Sand-blasting process continues:
  
• Identify the next operation on the tooling/ die plate by the use of a white chock i.e. polishing, die trial, taken off, die shop, modification etc.
• Store separately according to the next operation.
• Whenever you are required to remove the sand from the extractor, switch off the extractor first.
• Remove the drum with the sand.
• Empty the sand back into the machine.
• Put drum back and then start up the extractor.

• A Valid Matric.
• Knowledge of safety and appropriate PPE.
• Minimum of 4 years experience.
