SUMMARY:
We are urgently looking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced Safety officer with SACPCMP on a contract period in Northriding, Johannesburg

POSITION INFO:
Requirements:

  • 3 - 5 years experience within a FMCG or Manufacturing environment, (preferably packaging OR beverages)
  • Suitably qualified Diploma/Degree in Safety (NOSA and SAMTRAC advantage)
  • Registered with valid SACPCMP.
  • Own reliable transport
  • Must be available to work on a full time contract basis.

Office:
  • Ensuring safety files are updated and kept relevant with all customers,
  • Scheduling and monitoring of customer facing employees, annual medical assessments.
  • Manages and distributes PPE to customer facing employees.
  • The Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations within the office, warehouse and training academy.
  • Developing measures to assure personnel safety, promoting safety awareness to all employees.
  • Raise unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority.
  • May exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is required.
  • The Safety Officer maintains awareness of active and developing situations.
  • Participate in planning monthly safety rep meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operations daily work-plan.
  • Review the Incident Action Plan for safety implications.
  • Investigate / review all accidents that have occurred within the Clients environment or on customer site.
  • Ensure preparation and implementation of Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP).
  • Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related government agencies.
  • Enforces / communicates safety guidelines as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993
  • Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations as per the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993
  • Conducts investigations of all accidents and near-misses.
  • Establishes safety standards and policies as needed.
  • Receive and investigate employees’ safety concerns, implementing relative POA to reduce where possible.
  • Arranges for OSHA mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants.
  • Guidance and support to the Clients management team around development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Conduct risk assessment with relative PM/Departments or customer enforcing preventative measures.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
  • Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
  • Establish and maintain a MSDS Plan for all Chemicals, Hazardous Goods kept on site.
Site: (Monitoring systems, with safety officers on site and PM’s)
  • Ensure that in line with the Construction Regulations the development of the Project SHE Plan is done in accordance with the customer’s SHE requirements.
  • Develop Project specific Risk Assessments
  • Develop & Implement Critical Task analysis for Hazardous Jobs.
  • Audit & approve sub-contractors Safety Files on a continual basis while the project is running.
  • Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment. (SITE)
  • Conducts toolbox meetings. (SITE)
  • A HSE Officer is part of the project team and leads all efforts to enhance safety, working closely with the safety officers deployed on sites. (SITE)
  • The safety officer reviews and approves all subcontractor’s safety plans, before site establishment with customers. (SITE)
  • Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use. (SITE)
  • Conducts job hazard analysis, in conjunction with the relative PM or customer. (SITE)
