SUMMARY:
Our client based in Johannesburg is looking for a Safety Officer someone who will be responsible for there Safety and Risk services to the mine. Communication with all there stake holders and dealing with all the issues related to inspections and Health and Safety observations.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Safety Officer Responsibilities:

Supporting the development of OHS policies and programs.
Instructing and advising on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
Conducting risks assessment and enforce preventative measures
Reviewing existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
Initiating and organizing OHS training of employees and executives
Inspecting premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
Overseeing installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
Recording and investigating incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
Preparing reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management

Requirements and skills:

Proven 4 years’ experience as safety officer.
Relevant qualifications in safety management, engineering or relevant field are preferred.
Certificate in occupational health and safety.
In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g., OSHA/EPA) and procedures.
Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
Proven experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
Knowledge of use in MS Office.
Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
Outstanding organizational skills.
Great attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
