SQL DBA (Database Administrator)

SUMMARY:
Urgently looking for a Senior SQL Database Administrator that is up for a challenge in Pinetown - KZN. Min 5 - 10 years’ exp. as a SQL DBA.

POSITION INFO:

Skills & Experience:

• Data modeling and database design
• Have in depth SQL knowledge SQL, PostgreSql and mySQL
• Database Security
• Backup and recovery experience
• Replication/ Log Shipping experience
• Performance tuning on SQL queries / stored procedures

Minimum requirements

• Minimum 5 - 10 years SQL database administration experience. 
• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science / Software Engineering or equivalent will be advantages 
• Grade 12
• South African citizen
• Clean criminal record

Description

• Co-ordinate with relevant departments to understand customer and staff requirements
• Communicate and collaborate with other Software Developers to proactively implement software systems and solve complex problems
• Develop and maintain products on multiple different database environments including MS SQL, PostgreSql and mySQL.
• Data modeling and database design. The DBA must possess the ability to create an efficient physical database design from a logical data model and application specifications. If the data resource management discipline has not been created, the DBA also must be responsible for data modeling, normalization, and conceptual and logical design.
• Metadata management and repository usage.
  Collect, store, manage, and enable the ability to query the organization''s metadata.
• Without metadata, the data stored in databases lacks true meaning.
• Database schema creation and management.
• Translate a data model or logical database design into an actual physical database implementation and to manage that database once it has been implemented.
• Backup and recovery.
• Implementing robust backup and recovery procedures is the insurance policy of the DBA. The DBA must implement an appropriate database backup and recovery strategy based on data volatility and application availability requirements.
• Ensuring data integrity.
• Must be able to design databases so that only accurate and appropriate data is entered and maintained. To do so, the DBA can deploy multiple types of database integrity including entity integrity, referential integrity, check constraints, and database triggers.
• Ensure the structural integrity of the database.
• Performance management and tuning.
  Dealing with performance problems is usually the biggest postimplementation nightmare faced by DBAs. As such, the DBA must be able to proactively monitor the database environment and to make changes to data structures, SQL.
• Test products in controlled and real situations before going live.
• Troubleshoot, debug, upgrade and maintain existing software systems and environments e.g. Linux and Windows.
• Prepare training manuals for users.
• Develop and write specification documentation and technical manuals.
• Staff and Customer support [to enhance the quality and productivity of the company
• Assist staff and customers with queries timeously
• Reporting and General administration [to promote smooth flow of business.
• Update and maintain an accurate database of all software systems implemented, progress status, discrepancies and recommendations.
  Conduct updates to line manager (e.g., weekly work plans or schedules; monthly/quarterly progress of system status and; all variances encountered).
• Utilise customer feedback to improve the c-system processes.
• Make recommendations to management to improve software systems, productivity and, new products and trends available.
• In addition: Develop/debug software on multiple platforms, including microsoft.NET framework (C#, VB) and Node.
