JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our Client, a National blue-chip Group Leader in the FMCG industry, is seeking to URGENTLY appoint an experienced SHERQ OFFICER - Health & Safety for their Noodsberg, KZN, Food processing Operation (R470K Basic + benefits pa)


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • Report directly into the SHERQ Manager
  • Implement the Group’s SHERQ Practices of Performance and related standards, systems, processes, and applicable legislative  (OHS Act) / regulatory requirements and promote SHERQ culture and awareness.
  • Support the site / functional area to effectively implement, comply with and monitor SHERQ standards and processes, through coaching, guidance and communication with all relevant stakeholders.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Promote a culture of continuous SHERQ improvement and adherence.
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate SHERQ risk assessments, and work with operations to develop best mitigation plans.
  • Coach and guide, line management in the assessment, management and continuous improvement of SHERQ performance.
  • Facilitate SHERQ investigations and coordinate the verification of closeout actions.
  • Facilitate the closeout of audit findings.
  • Create SHERQ awareness using various fit for purpose media (e.g. toolbox talks, noticeboards, electronic media).
  • Develop SHERQ capability in contractors and seasonals, through facilitation of safety induction training / design material
  • Manage SHERQ induction processes, through effective planning, facilitation and co-ordination.
  • Conduct inspections and internal audits to oversee and ensure the adherence to legislative and IIRMS requirements
  • Maintain the IIRMS and external assurance systems through creating and updating procedures, communicating changes to procedures and auditing compliance
  • Implement and drive the implementation of SHERQ programmes and plans specific to area of responsibility (e.g. BBS)
  • Develop monitoring schedules to ensure compliance with statutory requirements for safety and occupational health
  • Test and validate inputs into the ABF Annual HSE reporting process to reduce likelihood of findings.
  • Compile SHERQ management reports.
  • Co-ordinate effective testing of emergency response protocols.
  • Track SHERQ inspections in CMMS (e.g. MAXIMO) and facilitate effective closeout.
  • Ensure effective SHE committee meetings are conducted, through to setting up the programme, attending meetings and making necessary changes to IIIRMS a result.
  • Create awareness of safety in communities who live and use the estate (e.g. Villages in the boundary) through developing and delivering pamphlets, talks etc.
  • Promote and adhere to the Group’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT:

  • Minimum Diploma / Degree in Safety / Quality Management / Risk Management or related area; with a SAMTRAC / NEBOSH qualification:
  • ISO 9000 / 45000 Lead Auditor qualification would be an advantage
  • 2-3 years experience in an operational environment (Factory / Agriculture), working in a health and safety role.
  • Training in First Aid and Fire Prevention is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of relevant SHERQ legislation and regulatory requirements:
  • Ability to plan, organise and track activities for self and others, problem solving and analytical skills, administrative ability and attention to detail, sound interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Able to convey information effectively and influence others.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Ability to coach and facilitate learning skills in MS Office.
