POSITION INFO:

Our client based in Durban is looking for a SHE Coordinator to join their team . The SHE Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the Company’s SHE policy; ensuring that the company and its contractors comply with the relevant legislation standards 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Actively promote, and provide training on Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures, recognising a personal “Duty of Care” to colleagues and the wider environment
  • Conduct pre-implementation Risk assessments, identify risk mitigation measures and review risk assessments for compliance to specifications for staff and contractors.
  • Compile and maintain safety files and other related files for SHE/projects.
  • Ensuring statutory SHE requirements are met and certificates kept current at all times
  • Accurately sample and manage analytical SHE tests, ensuring efficiency and data reliability
  • Conducting trend analyses to ensure ongoing compliance with requirements and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Record, investigate, report, close-out and ensure follow-up actions are taken for incidents to ensure non-recurrence (using FMIS and related tools)
  • Conducting and facilitating SHE audits, and 6S audits and maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in line with 6 S practices
  • Facilitating & secretary to SHE meetings and processes and report to Management meetings when required
  • Managing the induction process and ensure all employees receive SHE induction and contractors are trained on arrival, and when joining any meetings, project work.
  • Monitor contractor work performance and escalate matters of non-conformance
  • Establish, implement and monitor safe work procedures, SOPs and work instructions when required.
  • Maintaining the pest control system
  • Coordinate and implement emergency response exercise and drills to ensure levels of preparedness for any emergency and maintain records for these.
  • Conduct firefighting, safety and emergency response equipment inspections
  • Supporting and co-ordinating firefighting and prevention initiatives
  • Assist in development of emergency response procedures and evacuation plans and review and update per compliance requirements
  • Ensure communication of emergency plans and evacuation are communicated to staff and visitors and update registers on training and inductions.
  • Supporting and developing waste reduction initiatives
  • Assisting with and provide SHE improvement proposals and operational SA CIP strategy with the Management and CIP teams, with a focus on improving all process areas and embed a culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Report on outcomes of any CI initiatives/projects to the Management team on a regular basis
  • Coach and train employees on the use of CI tools
  • Review and amend standard operating procedures (SOP’s) appropriate to the improvements in co-ordination with QMS Dept
  • Maintain and control use of and stock ordering of PPE for site

 

Experience and qualifications:

  • Degree/National Diploma in Health and Safety Management qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant SHE experience in implementing HSE
  • Well experienced in petrochemical industry and in company standards and programs in order to be able to pass on knowledge/ requirements to others
  • Practical experience implementing problem solving techniques, CI activities, 6S

 

Skills and competencies:

  • Microsoft Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, Power-point and ERP experience)
  • Competent in and understands the relevant ISO 45001 and 14001 standards, and experience with ISO ----- and associated legislation in this regard.
  • Able to write up and implement departmental SOPs
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and report writing skills
  • Good persuasions skills at all levels and works as a team member
  • A self-starter who is able to take initiative, manage and plan multiple tasks and prioritise, whilst maintaining accuracy, attention to detail and quality of output
  • Innovative, with the ability to ‘look outside the box’ to develop or recommend improvements and solutions
