SENIOR UNDERWRITER - RISK FINANCE

Minimum Requirements
Minimum 8 years underwriting experience on Motor, Fire, Accident and Miscellaneous classes
Large and Complex claims experience across all classes
Working Knowledge of Industry Policy Wording across all classes
Minimum 5 years experience in placing Facultative Reinsurance Cover
FAIS compliant
3 years relevant post matric qualification
Sound knowledge of insurance services regulations (FAIS, PPR, NCA,
Insurance Acts)
Knowledge of insurance operations
Technical knowledge of insurance & reinsurance structuring
Working Knowledge of Alternative Risk Transfer Underwriting and Structuring
AIISA or similar qualification

Key responsibilities
Investigate and develop innovative underwriting solutions that meet business needs of internal and external clients in support of the company and to ensure
that these are understood by both internal and external clients.
Draft and approve policy wordings and underwriting limits.
To monitor and reconcile stated risk retention strategy in consultation with the business.
Assist in the development of new products, structures, rating and policy wordings in consultation with Client Management to profitably underwrite risks
both conventional and non conventional risks.
Assist account executives from an underwriting perspective with new business and renewal of clients.
Negotiate facultative terms with reinsurers for new and existing business where required.
Review reinsurance treaty and facultative wordings and align with underlying policies.
Provide underwriting technical support including claims technical support to account executives and finance.
Monitor underwriting profitability of clients where required.
Identify, develop, rollout & monitor risk improvement measures in consultation with account executives to profitably underwrite risks both conventional and
non-conventional.
To assist on complex and large claims, in consultation with Loss Adjusters and Attorneys where required.
To assist with the training of internal staff.
Ensure account executives act in accordance with the agreed mandate.
