Roll Shop Lead Operator

SUMMARY:
Our client in Saudi Arabia is looking for Roll Shop Lead Operator to join their operations.  This position reports directly to the Roll Shop Shift Supervisor.

POSITION INFO:
Overall Job Purpose

• This position is responsible to operate the CNC roll and knives grinding machines, de-chocking and chocking machines and other related equipment (jib cranes) and conduct chock servicing/maintenance to produce high quality ready spare rolls according to specified finish in compliance with the EHS Policies and Procedures. 
• Clean and maintain the equipment to ensure optimum utilization and dimensional and surface finish accuracy. 
• Performs the task of the Roll Shop Shift Supervisor during his absence.

• Implements & reinforces EHS Policies and procedure in the production area by words and actions. Plans and execute the work in accordance with EHS procedure and standards.
• Takes reasonable care for his health and safety in the workplace. He must also take reasonable care for the health and safety of others who may be affected by what he does.
• Cooperates with EHS team about any action they take to comply with the EHS Act or Regulations.
• Contributes to Near miss reporting
• Contributes to Quality and EHS Audits.
• Contributes to incident reports.

• In the work place, wear always required PPEs and follow safe work practices as per EHS policies & procedures.
• Identify and evaluate potential / existing safety problems, suggesting solutions and recommending suitable corrective measures
• Provide an open means by which subordinates / sub-contractors can communicate safety concerns, when possible action the items and when not ensure these are passed to personnel / sections for further actions.
• Actively participate in implementation of Maaden Safety Policy by example and communication to subordinates.
• Report, investigate and monitor near misses/incidents in area of control, conduct and participate in all activities relating removal of hazards in your work area.
• Assist with identification of hazards arising from activities in work area, ensuring that all are communicated to relevant personnel in order to maintain a hazard free work area.
• Follow the procedures and instructions related to EHS within the scope of the work area.

• Operate the grinding machine to its maximum quality and productivity performance.
• Maintain proper record relating to rolls/knives.
• Properly check, clean, and preserve the rolls/knives.
• Identify and evaluate roll grinding quality problems, suggesting solutions and corrective measures.

• Prepare ready spare rolls by operating the roll chocking and de-chocking machines to mount and dismount rolls from the chocks and the brush/stripper bar.
• Maintain proper records of rolls prepared.
• Identify and evaluate problems related to roll chocking and de-chocking, suggest solutions and corrective actions.

• Overhaul chocks and bearings.
• Clean and measure chocks and bearings, evaluate and recommend corrective measures.
• Operates the jib crane and other roll and chocks lifting devices
• Continuously check and monitor equipment condition.
• Support commissioning activities during the start-up phase of the plant or in case of new developments in the area.
• Coordinate with other manning for safe and productive operations.
• Enforce good standards of housekeeping in the areas worked.
• Remove and store rolls in designated storage racks using roll handling and lifting equipments.
• Maintain safe working condition in the Roll Shop area and follow safe working procedures and instructions.
• Identify EHS, operation and quality issues/problems and report to Roll Shop Supervisor for immediate action.
• Follow emergency response plan during emergency.
• Maintain close coordination with all Roll Shop floor operators
• Inform the Roll Shop Supervisor immediately of any operation difficulties.
• Participate in the effective implementation of Health, Safety and Environment Management System.
• Performs other similar and associated duties as required by the Roll Shop Supervisor.
• Follow company rules and regulations, labour laws and management directives.
• Perform plating function at the chrome plating facility according to the established work instructions.
• Assumes the job of the Roll Shop Supervisor during his absence and if designated accordingly.

• Minimum high school graduate is required. Minimum computer knowledge required. Must have good communication skills in written & oral in English.

• 8 years operational experience in operating a CNC roll grinding machine, de-chocking and chocking machines and Roll Shop equipment.
• Detailed technical knowledge of the specific process being operated is required.

• Use of basic hand tools and precision measuring equipment like micrometers, hardness testers and roughness testers.
• Written / Communication skills in English and/or Arabic.
• Technical Knowledge of rolls, and roll assembly accessories, their defects and preparation.
• Basic computer operation.
• Slinging and rigging skills.
• Operation of jib crane.
  

• 100 % of work in shop floor and exposed to plant conditions such as humidity, noise etc,

• Achievement oriented and ability to work under stress and rotational shift system.
