Research Study Assistant x 23 (18 Months Fixed Term Contract) Wits VIDA

Main purpose of the job:

• To recruit and ensure the retention of study participants

Location:

• VIDA - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital - Soweto

Key performance areas:

Recruitment and Retention

• Recruit participants according to study inclusion/exclusion criteria
• Address relevant concerns and misconceptions about the study with participants
• Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with participants
• Report on number of participants recruited on daily basis to team leader

Administration

• Ensure that consent forms are accurately completed and signed by all parties
• File all participant forms according to the study requirements (alphabetic/numeric order) and ensure all forms are submitted to the relevant data capturers
• Complete source documents according to GCP
• Update electronic screen logs on a daily basis, copy admission book logs on a daily basis

Follow up’s

• Call participants to complete 90 days and 180 days follow up questionnaires
• Follow up on missed visits and complete the necessary feedback logs
• Conduct home visits if follow up calls are unsuccessful

Required minimum education and training:

• Grade 12

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum 1-2 years work experience in a research environment and working in the community

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• GCP Training
• Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft (MS) Word and MS Excel beneficial
• Attention to detail, enthusiastic, hard-working
• The ability to work independently
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team essential
• Fluency in at least one local language other than English essential
• Valid Drivers Licence
• Able to work late and travel, may need to lift boxes.
