JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To develop and produce RHAP advocacy materials, refine existing research, foster consensus-building on policy positions and support knowledge management within the organization

Location:

  • RHAP Offices – Rosebank, Johannesburg, Gauteng

Key performance areas:

  • Develop policy briefs, annual fact sheets, Parliamentary submissions, and other policy advocacy outputs in collaboration with Policy & Partnerships Coordinator
  • Support TB Accountability Consortium (TBAC) Officer in producing policy advocacy outputs
  • Revise existing RHAP publications and positions for external audiences
  • Liaise with project teams to identify relevant best practices, success stories, or policy inputs from district/provincial levels, and help translate/communicate these to support policy priorities
  • Monitor, identify and analyze political and global trends that impact rural health and key policy priorities
  • Identify, analyze, and compile existing evidence to support RHAP’s policy priorities, and identify any evidence gaps
  • Help develop and document consensus-building processes among partners for joint statements
  • Improve internal knowledge management by ensuring pre-existing and newly produced material is effectively archived and made accessible
  • Partake in and present positions in interviews, webinars, and other public events as needed

Required minimum education and training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in health sciences, politics, sociology, or a similar field

Required minimum work experience:

  • 2-3 years of work experience required, which could include a combination of professional internships, work-study, etc.

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Demonstrated qualitative research skills and experience, with the ability to synthesize complex research into reader-friendly material
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Professional proficiency in English and one additional South African language
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must be an organized self-starter who can work well independently and as a team member
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work/connect with diverse cultures/contexts
  • Ability to travel nationally when required
  • Understanding of and experience with public health policy is a major advantage
  • Sincere commitment to social justice and health equity
