Rates Manager

SUMMARY:
Our client, an international leader in air freight cargo services is looking for a Rates Manager to join their team in Johannesburg.

POSITION INFO:

Job Description:

To quote clients with the best possible options and rates.

To keep the rates updated at all times.

Help Commercial Manager negotiate rates with airlines.

Update Web Cargo Net system with all rates.

Manage Spot rate controllers.

Key Performance Areas:

Report to Commercial Manager.

Receive requests from client via telephone or e-mail for Quotes and respond in a courteous, friendly and helpful manner.

Action client requests by quoting shipments in terms of our consolidation rates depending on details of the cargo supplied by the client.

Any variations in terms of the rates for service discussed or correspondence with the client MUST be in writing via e-mail and placed in the file and/or noted on the export file cover.

Be familiar with quoting all commodities.

Be familiar with airlines surcharges and their specific commodity add on.

Maintain relationships with customers and request and treat them with respect.

Keep rate file up to date.

Supply freight estimates based on airline specific request.

Utilize airlines that are in the best interest of the company.

Deal directly with the airlines with regards to adhoc rates.

Discount rates according to company procedures.

Accurately quote customers on a door-to-door service.

Liaise with overseas agents with regards to their rates and quotations.

Quote ex works charges to local and international agents.

Obtain quotes from packing companies for general cargo as well as DG cargo.

Keep invoicing department in copy for all rates sold.

Forward all booking request to the relevant department.

Quote clients in a timely manner.

Maintain DDU rates with Commercial Manager.

Maintain all rates in Webcargonet system with Commercial Manager.

Update monthly rates.

Update Fuel and Security list.

Keep a validation list for our rates from the airlines.

As an employee of a Regulated Agent (RA) you are required to conduct all security procedures and processes as set forth in the AMI Air Cargo Security program, and the SACAA Part 108.

Ensure you comply to Security and Safety work regulations.

Support management in undertaking the protective and preventative measures necessary to achieve compliance with safety and security.

Your manager may give you work instructions which does not form part of your main job description which you will need to undertake. The work instruction shall be reasonable and fair and given an acceptable time to complete. If the instruction is found to be unreasonable the employee must make this known the manager for resolution. If a resolution is not found the General Manager may be approached in this regard.

Manage the Spot rate controllers.

Education:
Matric
Relevant tertiary qualification

Skills:
English (Read, Write and Speak)
PC Literate
5 years’ experience in air freight, management, estimations and rates negotiations
