SUMMARY:
A leading FMCG organisation specailising in Personal Care requires an R&D Development Chemist with strong leadership and management exoerience to join their dynamic team!

POSITION INFO:

POSITION : R&D DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST
AREA         : SOUTHCOAST, KWA-ZULU NATAL
SALARY     : MARKET RELATED

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The successful incumbent will be required to mentor team members and grow their capabilities for contributing to the organization while coordinating and managing the efforts of the R&D team.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Relevant Tertiary qualification (B.Sc or Equivalent)/Qualification in Cosmetic Science
• Minimum of 5 years related industry experience and proven formulation track record
• Proven leadership/managerial experience
• Strong FMCG exposuree with a focus on Personal Care/Skin Care/ Cosmetics is ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing cutting edge skin care products to meet the demands of a growing global brand.
• Lead the R&D team in the technical aspects of product development through the investigation, planning, execution, evaluating and reporting on new product / process development improvement and troubleshooting projects.
• Advises, directs, coaches, inspires and reviews the work of less experienced formulation chemists on complex projects.
• Development of manufacturing processes for all formulations on all relevant production equipment; overseeing and running of pilot plant, scale up and production trial batches.
• Troubleshooting for manufacturing issues related to formulation or product and packaging interactions.
• Project Manager of all new product development projects as well as reformulation of existing products and changes required; ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and in line with agreed performance criteria and cost.
• Ensuring compliance to global regulatory standards as well as safety of existing and new formulations.
• Training and development of production staff on process methods, factory equipment, manufacture of new formulations as needed.
• Questions processes, procedures and policies. Fully investigates, develops, and presents alternatives for implementation.
• Develops understanding of any processes new to the organization; evaluates whether portions of that process are applicable to other products/projects.
• Attends classes/seminars to improve technical, interpersonal, and managerial skills. Shares learning and applies learning to work assignments.
