Quality Controller (4 Months Contract) Medical Entomology

Main purpose of the job:

• To ensure that sterile males produced by the mass-rearing facility meet the specified standards set and are competitive before being sent for releases

Location:

• 01 Modderfontein Road, Sandringham, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

Office Management & Administration

• Manage and monitor QMS (Quality Management System)
• Timeously recording of data gathered during QC activities
• Maintaining the QC database in liaison with the Database Supervisor
• Reporting on conclusions, trends, and recommendations for continuous improvement

Quality tests in the facility

• Quality tests on raw materials (e.g., blood, larval food, water)
• Production process quality tests (egg seeding monitoring, hatch rates monitoring, pupal weight, adult density in cages, larval feeding monitoring, adult fitness tests {flight tube test})
• Sterile male fertility and competitive tests
• Dosimetry tests during irradiation

Required minimum education and training:

• BSc Honours Biological Science (Major in Entomology added advantage)

Required minimum work experience:

• 2 years experience in Quality Control preferably in Mosquito/Insect production process control

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Computer Literacy (MS Office Suite)
• Good analytical skills
• Good administrative skills
• Experience in report writing
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal with people at different levels
• Knowledge in mosquito colonization and rearing
• Ability to work under pressure, and able to multitask
