POSITION INFO:
QAUNTITY SURVEYOR DIRECTOR
A construction company withing the Western Cape requires the position of a quantity surveyor director.
STRATEGIC DIRECTION
- Develop department strategy for the new year
- Develop and implement systems, policies and procedures to ensure efficiency within the department
- Ensure that department is equipped with updated software and systems to ensure efficient operations
- Ensure that bi-weekly cashflow reports, adequately forecast and indicate movement on project
- Management of projects to maintain and/or improve profit margins through supplier negotiations, cost management and cash flow management
- Ensure accurate forecasting on all projects
- Determine and execute all opportunities to increase profit margins on project
- Directors meetings to forecast and plan projects on near orders
- Management meetings on quarterly basis to discuss projects and progress
STRATEGIC PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Ensure all operationally identified KPI’s for assigned department is achieved on a monthly basis
- Manage quantity surveyor in terms of identified performance standards to ensure that staff are delivering
- All allowable are to be updated timeously to ensure that project timelines are maintained
- Ensure that all QS employees are adequately trained and developed
- Assist with recruitment within the department when required
- Ensure that the company’s vision and values are implemented throughout the department
- Manage department to ensure employee retention
- Adequate assign QS representative per project and ensure that they represent the company brand at the highest standard
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Ensure that budget provision from estimating is attainable prior to the onset of the project
- Ensure that all profit margins are achieved by aligning projects to provided budgetary requirements
- Ensure that the optimal number of individuals are employed within the department to create balance between departmental costs and profits
- Review allowables at onset of projects
- Maintain cashflow projections and requirements declared
- Ensure timeous payment of all suppliers and sub-contractors
- All site instructions, contract instructions, variations, extension of time claims, expense and loss claims, escalation claims and design changes as well as delay claims to be submitted strictly in terms of contractual conditions
- Ensure that interim – valuations claims and final accounts are accurate and submitted timeously that allows for timeous payments as per contractual agreement
STAKEHOLDER LIASON
- Uphold all relevant relationships throughout the project to ensure sufficient delivery of service
- Solve all problems as they raise in a timeous and efficient manner
- Ensure adequate representation at all client and project meetings
- Maintain quality standards through accurate work and resolving any disputes timeously with client representatives
- Management of all subcontractors in a professional manner to ensure long term relationship and high standard of service delivery
- Ensure effective relationship with all PQS’s on projects
- Ensure all compliance documentation is sufficient, accurate and up to date
QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

- Btech in Quantity Surveying
- 10 Years’ experience within Quantity Surveying of which a minimum of 5 years should be at a contracting firm.
- 5 years of Senior Management managing a team of 10+ QS employees
- Various simultaneous projects to have been worked on concurrently totalling up to 12 projects ranging from R2 million - R90 million.
