SUMMARY:
Our client in Durban is looking for a dedicated professional to monitor and observe operations to ensure that they meet production standards. Recommend adjustments to the assembly or production process. Inspect, test and measure materials or products being produced and remove all products/materials that fail to meet specifications. Read and understand blueprints and specifications.

POSITION INFO:

 Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day to day management of all quality related aspects of the project
  • Perform necessary inspections and measurement as called for in the QCP at appropriate times without delaying manufacturing or mechanical activities.
  • Obtain all necessary documentation and drawings to enable enforcement and inspection of quality specification.
  • Interpret drawings/isometrics, sketches and their applications for manufacturing in so far as inspection requirements are concerned.
  • Develop quality control plans for all projects
  • Provide guidance to the Production and Manufacturing teams and performing regular inspections to ensure quality is being controlled and Quality Control Plans are being utilized as planned.
  • Attend project meetings and become familiar with stated manufacturing and quality requirements.
  • Ensure inspection, measuring and test equipment are calibrated and certificates are properly filed.
  • Assist the audit team in conducting audits of the Company ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System to ensure on-going effectiveness and fitness for purpose with respect to project quality
  • Administration of internal auditing schedules and reports and notifications
  • Aid Quality Team and maintains quality records
  • Monitor operations on the production floor and on board the vessel that they meet specifications
  • Conduct visual and NDT surveys and organize all NDT requirements for the project
  • Liaise very closely with client and surveyor
  • Verifying that adequate and valid welder approvals are available and that only approved welders are used in manufacturing
  • Verification that dimensions, fit ups, and weld preparations are in accordance with specification (pre weld inspection)
  • Verification that any required parameters are in accordance with the specified procedure
  • Conduct surveillance and verification during fabrication, welding, outfitting to compliance with specified procedures.
  • Assistance and agreement with preparation of inspection and test plans
  • Verification when required that all post weld heat treatment has been conducted in accordance with specifications
  • Visual inspection and dimensional check of completed items against specification requirements and drawings
  • Data entry, Report inspections and test data
  • Inspect, test and measure materials and/or products, accepts or rejects finished items
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible
  • Performs verification on incoming, in process and outgoing products
  • Assists/trains operators on visual acceptability, measurement and process procedures as required
  • Reports quality problems or findings to QAQC Supervisor and follows up to ensure that the corrective action will take place
  • Maintains records of inspections, prepares list of defects, and interacts with all departments to ensure compliance with specification and to facilitate the acceptance of parts/products
  • Conduct visual inspections, verify all clearances before and after of shafts, rudders & propellers etc. and prepare reports.
  • Ensure that the repairs and servicing of the auxiliary equipment are completed in accordance with stated requirements and report.
  • Ensure that the outfitting activities are conducted in accordance with the stated requirement.
  • Record all non-conformance/defective quality related on a non-conformance report and obtain the QAQC Supervisor approval prior to issuing the NCR.
  • Compile the data books and ensure accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Quality Control department.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Knowledge of administrative, clerical procedures, computers, and relevant software applications
  • Knowledge of customer service (internal and external) principles and practices
  • Strong team player

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Trade Tested Artisan
  • Level 1 Fabrication and Welding Inspector
